Dear Student, Hello and Welcome
My interest in tutoring began while studying for my Associate Degree in Arts at Houston Community College in August of 2003. I worked as an Academic Tutor with a federally funded educational program called TRIO or better known as Student Support Services. It was here in this program that I had the privilege of tutoring first-generation college students such as myself. The program was intended to assist this population of students with staying enrolled in college and earning a two-year college degree. However, the better news is that many of the students in the program completed their two-year degree, and went on to earn their bachelor’s degree, and I was personally involved with several of those students. Working with first generation college students remains one of the most memorable and awesome experiences of my life.
As a personal tutor, I continue to work with college students specializing in MLA Writing Format (developing essays), Research Assignments (major and minor) and Psychology undergraduate and graduate coursework. I received an award for Psychology Honor Graduate Student in May 2013 and Outstanding Student in Psychology in May 2007-2008.
In addition to academia, I can also help college students with short and long term Career Objectives which includes developing a Resume, Cover Letter, Letter of Interest, and even exploring volunteer opportunities which research shows can lead to full-time employment.
I have adopted a Demonstrator or Personal Teaching Style in which I clearly demonstrate how the various steps lead to a successful writing or research assignment, and then provide an opportunity for students to apply the knowledge and skills via weekly homework assignments.
To help students determine if I am the best fit for helping them to achieve their academic goals, I offer a free consultation. I have a 24 hour cancellation policy, and generally meet with students in a public setting (public library, school library, etc.). Tutoring times are developed around the student’s work and class schedule to allow for more flexibility.
Thank you for taking the time to learn more about me. I am excited about the possibility of working with you to achieve your goals and look forward to meeting you.

My first tutoring session with Ms. Devril overall was a great experience. I plan on continuing to work with her throughout my graduate program. She and I will work closely together to improve my writing skills.
I was very impressed with the improvements we made within our first session on a rough draft copy of my paper. One of the reasons I feel that my first session with Ms. Devril was a success, she was able to quickly identify my level of writing skills and work at a pace that was comfortable for me. She also recognized my strengths and areas for improvement. She provided honest feedback and training material that will help to improve my writing.
What was also impressive is her wisdom and ability to work with students of any education level, profession, or program to meet their needs. She is easy to reach, flexible, and always willing to extend help. She also has very good timing when it comes to followup and feedback. I feel that I can count on her as my tutor, even if I need her help at the last minute. I feel that by working with Ms. Devril, my writing skills will improve drastically.
Ms. Devril W. is the perfect tutor, the one we dream about. She has many different skills to help me improving, such as practice academic listening and reading online. Also she recommended activities to enhance my vocabulary and my writing. The most important thing she has been doing during our time together is supporting and encouraging me to focus on my goals and never give up. I am feeling lucky to have your lessons. Thank you!!!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
During my Graduate Studies, I completed a Career Counseling course. I passed the course with an A. In my previous position, I was approved to work with clients who needed assistance with job search, resume writing, and career planning.
