40+ year tutor in HS and college mathematics including Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre Calculus, Calculus and test prep including SAT/ACT/GED/GMAT.
Consult with thousands of students online through portals such as Reddit, Discord, IRC, Facebook to help them with their studies including homework help, test prep help, study method help, application assistance for university.
Since college, worked for test prep companies such as Kaplan, and as an independent tutor working with hundreds of students one on one each year.
I hold a BS in Mathematics from DePaul University. I worked as a tutor for DePaul's math department and for University of Chicago's math department. Have worked as a tutor for special needs students - teaching numbers, counting, making change, telling time, and other life skills.
One young man I worked with was flunking Calculus. I determined his issue was he didn't write his work - that led to mistakes. He raised his grade from an F to a B+.
In ACT/SAT tutoring, I've worked with students who have gone from 13 on ACT, well below average, to 30 (well above average) and on SAT from a 900 to a 1400. One student worked with another tutor for a year - SAT was still under 1000. After 4 hours of sessions with me, and a lot of self study now that she was motivated, she achieved 1280. What was missing was the motivation - I provided it.
One parent told me this: "You didn't just help my son get his ACT score. You changed his life. Now he's motivated, does his work. His grades are up across the board, and he's doing what he needs to do to get into college."
For tests like ACT/SAT I teach the material on the test, test strategies and tactics, and how to prepare/study for the test. For mathematics, I explain concepts/formulas and how to use them, as well as note taking and study techniques. For all areas, I teach how to plan and how to manage time.
Even assembled, the Avengers can't match me in what I do. I help students with their learning - help them excel in more than school.
