About Achlee

Hello students and parents,

I am a dedicated educator who is determined to make sure all students I come in contact with are successful in their academic pursuits. I love teaching, and helping my students become wise souls and better students. I work hard at becoming a better person everyday because I know I have a responsibility to be a good leader over my students. I am a positive influence, and determined contributor to every kids life. I am blessed, and honored to work with students that are honest in their efforts to become successful students and individuals.

I have a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and Special Education and I am currently working on my Masters in Special Education with an emphasis in Autism. I'm a licensed teacher. I graduated from college (with honors) in the top 5% of my class. I humbly received the 2012 "Who's who Among American College Students" which is a prestigious award highlighting my academic success upon the ending of my college career. Aside from my academic exposure, I have a lot of experience with teaching students of all ages. My qualifications consist of child development in the areas of academics as well as physical, emotional and social development.I also work in the nursery ministry at my local church as a teacher/administrator handling all nursery school-aged children. I have many years of experience in the realm of tutoring as well. I have tutored many school-aged kids, as well as high school and even college students. I have experience as a supplemental instruction leader (SI). I also have experience tutoring children with special needs as well as the students that have savant capabilities. As an SI leader I worked closely with students whom were struggling to excel in their college level classes. I worked to provide weekly seminars in which I adapted their classroom lesson plans to the students individual learning capabilities.

I have an unlimited amount of patience, and refuse to give up until the job and the student's desired goal(s) are obtained. I use various methods that allow for the student to be exposed to multiple methods for obtaining knowledge. I truly believe that all students have the ability to learn, but many student's just need to be taught how to learn and the many different ways of learning. As a passionate and experienced teacher/tutor it is my job to teach students how to learn i.e. note-taking, understanding essential bullets, test-taking skills etc. I want students to know how to test and how to retain and understand knowledge that they are inquiring.

In doing so, some of my teaching techniques consist of hands-on with learning materials, which enhance learning and understanding, rehearsal which helps solidify the information being retained, making flash cards and or taking notes using various note-taking methods i.e. two-column notes, webs, t-tables etc., chunking/ task analysis in which I will teach students how to break down information in a more practical way, so they can learn to relate prior knowledge to present knowledge, in other words students will be using what you already know in order to understand what you need to know.

My goal is not to create robots or students that get the knowledge and just store it, I want to promote growth in the student for them to be able to transfer that knowledge into applicable lively circumstances and more importantly become critical thinkers and successful leaders.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I have a degree in Special Education and as a requirement of completing that degree,I have completed over 20 practicum hours solely dealing with students whom display ADD/ADHD. Some tutoring methods that I make sure to use with these students are hands-on learning materials. Also frequent breaks and incentive enforced lesson plans, as well as breaking down lesson plans into simple components to make sure overloading is not taken place is imperative.

Algebra 1

I ensure all my students understand the process. I give them a solid foundation and I help them improve their critical thinking and application skills.

Autism

I have a degree in Special Education and I am licensed to teach students in the area of Autism. I also have worked many jobs that required me to help individuals with behavioral management as well as adaptation skills whom are diagnosed with Autism. I work with over ten students In the areas of reading, math, language and social/daily functioning skills. There are a lot of strategies to use for children with Autism i.e. cue cards, visual aids, routine schedules, as well as frequent reward systems in order to increase learning.

Basketball

I am an elite athlete with multiple recognizable awards--the McDonalds All American Nominee, for example. I have college level experience. I also coached at basketball for more than four years, one year as the assistant coach at the high-school level in ND.

Psychology

One of my bachelors from MSU was in the field of Psychology. I am also Professionally Licensed to teach all levels of Psychology, including AP which is Advanced Placement Psychology.

Study Skills

I was the SI Leader at my college where I graduated. An SI leader is a supplemental instructor, who is academically qualified and trained to work with children who need helping with acquiring the study skills that help to solidify their learning. Some skills that I will cover are good studying habits, good note taking skills, how to find the important information for testing purposes etc.

Vocabulary

I am stellar with understanding the meaning of all sorts of words. My ability to speak college-level Spanish has definitely helped me in this area as well. I also spend lots of time extending my word usage by reading the dictionary.
