I am passionate about education and working with students to build their confidence in government, social studies, and religion courses. My tutoring philosophy is based in part on the effective methods I've benefited from throughout my educational and professional careers. I see my primary role as listening to the challenges each student is facing and crafting a plan (in conjunction with parents, if appropriate) to achieve their goals and build confidence in the subject matter. I have academic training and practical professional experience in my discipline areas, a valuable asset for any tutor.
If you wish to know more about my personal and professional biography, please read on.
I'm a Houston native, but left for four years to student religion and psychology at a small liberal arts university in Marshall, Texas. Those four years in Marshall gave me plenty of opportunities to improve my leadership skills and build knowledge of biblical history. I had the opportunity to study under some of the most respected professors in ethics, Koine Greek, and psychology. From 2003 - 2007, I was a student minister at a church on Caddo Lake, responsible for developing weekly lessons and teaching students from six to twelfth grade.
After I left Marshall, TX, I moved back home and began a career working in the nonprofit industry. I've led multiple projects and programs for nonprofit organizations throughout the Greater Houston area. Those experiences led me to graduate school for public administration at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA). My coursework at UTA included a major focus on economic policy, effective government management, and local, state, and federal budgets.
My education in religion and government administration informs how I see the world and work with individuals at all stages of life and in different situations. I'm comfortable working and talking with any student, and welcome the opportunity to work alongside you or your child.
I currently work in a large nonprofit organization in Houston, evaluating community-based health care, mental health, and substance abuse services. I work with businesses, nonprofits, and local governmental organizations to collaborate and improve service delivery in traditionally underrepresented communities.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Master's in Public Administration from the University of Texas at Arlington.
Coursework: Political organization theory, economic and housing policy, effective government administration, local/state/federal budgeting, etc.
Currently work with a variety of governmental, corporations, and nonprofit organizations, to improve community-based service delivery in Houston.
I have used Macintosh computers since 2000, beginning with operating system 9. I have tutored college students and adults on transitioning to the Macintosh platform, and troubleshooting software and hardware issues.
I have ten years of experience creating and delivering presentations and speeches to a variety of audiences, including classrooms, at conferences, and marketing pitches. My current job involves delivering, on average, six presentations a week. I can help an individual think through the key messages and components of a presentation, and provide feedback on ways to effectively communicate those messages that will resonate with audiences.
I have a bachelor's degree in religion from East Texas Baptist University. My coursework included biblical hermeneutics, surveys of both old and new testament, comparative world religions, missiology, Koine Greek, pentateuch, among others. I taught religious courses to students at a church on Caddo Lake, and at a homeless shelter in Longview, TX.
