About Charlotte

Hello! My name is Charlotte and I'm an experienced, caring, certified teacher. I have been teaching for over 20 years in the public school and homeschool settings. I hold Texas certification in the areas of special education, elementary education (K-8), and ESL.

For the last 8 years, I have been homeschooling my two children. Prior to that, I was lucky to have the opportunity to work as a public school teacher in three different states. Lucky may not be the word most would use to describe 5 - 6 years of work experience in each of three states, but there is no price tag or value one can put on the variety of experiences I've had; the educational environments I've had a chance to learn from; or the extensive amount of people I have been fortunate to meet and observe.

I have taught all subject areas from preschool to 8th grade. I have also tutored at the high school and college levels for Algebra 1 and developmental academic classes. My specialty has been in the special needs area and with students who have on going difficulties with specific academic areas. I am a very dedicated teacher who has a lot of patience and a knack for individualizing and presenting material in a variety of ways.

I am available for tutoring during the day, as well as, evening hours***. Thank you for considering me and I look forward to having an opportunity to work with you.

*** AT THIS TIME, ALL OF MY AFTER SCHOOL TUTORING SLOTS HAVE BEEN FILLED. I AM CURRENTLY ADDING DAYTIME STUDENTS ONLY. PLEASE REFER TO MY SCHEDULE OF AVAILABILITY. I WILL KEEP IT AS ACCURATE AS POSSIBLE. THANK YOU FOR ALL OF THE INQUIRIES! ***

SINCERELY,
CHARLOTTE

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I have taught in preschool-junior high special education classrooms for 15 years and certified in Special Ed. During that time, I frequently taught students with ADD/ADHD. I have also attended numerous workshops to learn the best practices for teaching students with ADD/ADHD.

Aspergers

Through out my 20 years of teaching experience, I have taught students with Aspergers and attended several workshops to improve my knowledge and understanding. This included a week long Autism Institute where Aspergers was covered extensively. For the last year, I have homeschooled a student with Aspergers in Algebra 1. While teaching in Arizona, I was Autism certified.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have my BA in Elementary Education from the University of Southwestern Louisiana. I have taught all subjects (at one time or another) for 15 years in the public school setting, levels preschool--junior high. The majority of my experience was with special needs students. This has given me a lot of experience in presenting material in a variety of ways. Individualization is one of my strengths.

ESL/ESOL

I am ESL certified. For 6 years, I worked in Arizona on the Mexican border where using ESL teaching methods were the norm not the exception.

Phonics

I have a BA in Elementary Education as well as certification in Special Ed and ESL. Through my 20 years of teaching experience, I have taught students of all ages and grade levels who were reading at primer and beginning levels. This has given extensive experience in teaching phonetic skills.

Special Needs

I have a BA in Elementary Education from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette with certifications in Special Ed. and ESL. I taught in the public school system for 15 years as a special ed. teacher. My experience includes Preschool - Junior High (all subjects, all levels of severity (except Severe/Profound), and low incidence disabilities). I have a strong desire to discover what works best for each student. I also have a lot of experience working with students who have visual impairments that include tracking and teaming issues.
