Teaching has always been in me. I started tutoring when I was in high school to other high school students. I have always volunteered to help my relatives as well as friends and classmates from a very early age. I have been a teacher for over 10 years and have taught several subjects. Math is my favorite subject. I enjoy teaching math because I love working with numbers and problem solving. I was a special education teacher for several years, but started teaching math to regular and special education students about three years ago. I have taught several grade levels, but I particularly like teaching elementary students.
I believe we need to know and understand the basic fundamentals of math before we can learn and understand the more complex part of math. I also think that reading is very important when it comes to learning math. In my experience as a math teacher, reading comprehension plays a key role in understanding how to complete math problems correctly. Knowing how to calculate problems is a necessity, but it is not a secret that most of the math problems that elementary students face are in fact reading problems. I have come up with a step by step way to answer word problems that makes it easy to understand and extract the important information that is needed.
I do feel strongly about what I teach, but am understanding to children who have learning disabilities. I have been trained on how to teach children with mental and physical handicaps. If you have not been diagnosed with a disability, but just can't seem to "get it", please don't feel like you are alone. I will do my best to find what works for you.
I am usually available after 4:00 on week days, and am willing to work until 7:00 on some days. I will consider some weekends with prior notice. Please email me with any issues you might have with scheduling a session.
I look forward to hearing from you and am excited to be able to work with each and every one of you.
My background is in math and special education, but math is my passion. When I was a special education teacher

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been teaching elementary school for almost 10 years. And I have taught all subject areas, but am best at math. I have been a special education teacher for 6 years and am very qualified to work one on one with struggling students.
