I graduated magna cum laude from Emory University in 2019 with a BS in Biology and a 3.9 GPA. I have tutored students part-time for two years in biology, chemistry, math, ESL, and academic writing. My ultimate goals as a tutor are to not only help my students achieve their academic goals but also critically think about concepts so that they will be well-equipped to approach more challenging problems. While learning is very rarely a straightforward process, the emotional payoff from mastering a concept is incredibly rewarding and is something that I strive to inspire in everyone that I work with.

I have a semester's worth of experience teaching students as a Supplemental Instructor in Advanced Genetics, where I worked closely with my professor to create my own presentations, handouts, and practice exams for students that reflected the content and difficulty of the class. I received the Biology Faculty Award in 2017 from Oxford College of Emory University for my contributions in teaching. In addition to this, I have also helped students with their biology writing assignments when I worked as a writing tutor for two semesters. Having had two years of experience in cancer research, including my honors thesis which involved an oral defense of my research project and a written thesis, I am skilled at teaching students how to think and communicate scientifically.

I have also received ESL training and have experience in teaching English to refugees. For nine months I worked with adults one-on-one who started at varying levels of English ability from learning the alphabet to needing practice with conversations. I have also taught English to children at a school for refugees for a semester, where I volunteered as a Guided Reading Tutor. Students read books to me based on their English ability, and I evaluated their pronunciation as well as their comprehension of the story by asking questions and engaging in discussion about book topics. I place an emphasis on making my sessions as interactive and concrete as possible, as

I have received A’s in college level Calculus I and II, and I have tutored at the high school and college level in both courses. I have tutored Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, AP Calculus AB/BC, IB Calculus SL/HL, Calculus I, and Calculus II. When teaching math I tend to explain how to solve a problem, asking questions throughout the process to allow students to understand the logic of each step. Throughout the learning process, I encourage students to adopt an increasing degree of independence until they are able to completely solve a problem while also understanding what their answer means.

I hold a BS in Biology, graduated magna cum laude from Emory University, and I am currently pursuing medical school. My honors thesis was in cancer biology, and the ultimate goal of my research was to determine whether a sub-population of prostate cancer patients with a certain genetic profile were particularly responsive to a cancer drug, and I will be a co-author on the article for this project (revisions in the works!). I have a couple years of experience teaching high school and college level biology, and I have written practice exams, creating handouts, and preparing biweekly presentations, and I've received the Biology Faculty Award in 2017 for my teaching. I also have experience revising and critiquing biology lab reports and projects. I have also received A's in all college-level biology courses that I have taken. Subjects that I have tutored in include AP Biology, IB Biology SL/HL, Introductory Biology at the college level, Advanced Genetics, and Evolutionary Biology.

I have received A's in college-level general chemistry I and II and organic chemistry I and II. I'm also currently studying for the MCAT, which requires mastery of general and organic chemistry, so knowledge of these topics is fresh on my mind. I have also taken labs for all four of the classes and have a year of experience tutoring college students in academic writing, including for chemistry classes. I was also offered a position as a supplemental instructor in general chemistry. I have tutored AP Chemistry, IB Chemistry SL/HL, General Chemistry I/II, and Organic Chemistry I/II. Patient and encouraging tutor

Christina stayed patient with me throughout my confusion with certain subjects and explained things thoroughly without being condescending. I appreciate her dedication and patience with me.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

Christina really explained the problems and rules of the problems so well that I fully understand what I was doing wrong before. Very patient and very helpful I would recommend Christina's tutoring services to anyone who needs help.

Awesome teacher, very kind and knowledgeable

Christina is extremely good at explaining concepts in biology! I had an exam to study for and she helped my with the many questions I had. I’m looking forward for more lessons because she really explains the concepts well! She’s also just very patient and will make sure to explain ideas if they don’t make sense the first time. Thank you Christina!

Patient, knowledgeable, clear

My son came downstairs after only one lesson and said that she was amazing. He liked how she explained things ("she thinks like I think but knows how to do it"). He is very excited and optimistic that he will get through calc class this year - a very important senior year. Thank you!

Well prepared, patient and thorough!

Christina had her first chemistry tutoring session with my daughter yesterday. Since she is taking virtual classes at school with 27 students in her class asking questions and reviewing materials is nearly impossible. Christina is helping to keep her ahead of the class and making sure she understand the materials in advance. So grateful to have her!!!

Denise, 3 lessons with Christina

A great help!

Christina was a great help for my daughter she helped her understand her chemistry assignments in a way her teacher could not, she was personable and that made my daughter feel comfortable.

Ebonie, 2 lessons with Christina
