Hi! My name is Christine; I recently graduated cum laude with a double major in Creative Writing and Spanish as well as a Literature minor from Stephen F. Austin State University, meaning that my surefire strengths are in English and Spanish.
Since my first major was Creative Writing, many of my classes consisted of reading, compiling essays and creative works, and proofreading my work and the work of my peers. I also edited and helped my friends with their essays for their English Composition classes or college submissions. I believe I not only have the background, but the patience and sharp eye necessary to switch teaching tactics if the student needs an extra oomph!
My final year at SFA, I was a Spanish tutor for a professor, providing tutoring sessions several times a week, meeting with students separately if they wanted extra attention, and preparing extra course work and sheets to serve as learning aids. I also taught the Spanish class (SPA I and II) whenever my professor was out on conferences. It was hard but rewarding work, and the best part was seeing the light bulbs click on above student heads as they began making connections in Spanish.
My background in Spanish is also strengthened by my opportunity to study abroad for half a year in Peru and in Spain. In both countries, I attended the local universities, practicing my listening, speaking, and writing skills with my classmates and with the locals. I love languages, and I believe I have a strong passion and background. I believe learning new languages is extremely important, and that it doesn't have to be dull memorization, but can include a variety of media and resources that can spruce up the lesson and catch a student's interest.
I believe that I am a patient and quirky person; I believe I can adapt to your learning methods, that I can relate and connect, and that I am sincere and will work together with you to make things easier, to make things less complicated, and to make things not just bearable, but interesting and fun
** To note, I do prefer tutoring Spanish over English, however I do also enjoy revising and editing essays/creative works. In regards to my schedule, of course I am willing to work with your hours — I may have it set a specific way due to volunteering obligations, but of course I can be flexible as long as I have several days notice to update all parties involved, so please feel free to ask!! c: I look forward to working with you and your family!
