I recently graduated magna cum laude from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, with minors in Chemistry and Classical Studies. I was also the Latin tutor for my university for the last three of my four years in college. I enjoyed being able to help other students with their coursework. I have the most experience tutoring Latin, but I am also qualified to teach a wide range of math and science subjects, with math all the way to upper level Calculus and Differential Equations, and with science, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, and Engineering. I try to motivate students to enjoy what they are studying. If a student is struggling with a topic, I explain the topic in as many ways as I can so that the material is fully understood. I believe firmly in being a lifelong learner and try to instill this in my students. In my free time I enjoy learning new languages casually, biking and watching Netflix.
I excelled in my chemical engineering studies in college while fitting in a classical studies minor as well. I received only three B's in my chemical engineering courses in my four years of college, with the rest being all A's. I always enjoyed studying with friends in my classes because I could explain many concepts and problems to them when I had a good grasp of them.
I was the outstanding senior in chemical engineering at my university. I have passed the fundamentals of engineering (FE) chemical exam. I understand things conceptually and am able to explain the concepts in multiple ways.
I have close to four years of tutoring experience in Latin. I have taken four years of Latin in high school and two semesters in college. I received a 5 on the AP Latin exam in my senior year of high school. I have experience working with translation of Ovid, Vergil, Caesar, and some Cicero. I have used the Cambridge Latin courses in high school, and the Wheelock's textbook in college.
I am able to help with translations, both English to Latin, and vice versa, and help with the language at any level (high school or university). I am also capable to help with topics in the chemical engineering curriculum. Please feel free to message me to schedule lessons or otherwise reach out!
I reached out to Phillip late tonight for a MATLAB assignment that's due tomorrow! He helped me complete it even though he had no time to prepare or look over it ahead of time. That's how smart he is!...creating algorithms on the spot! He is very gentle and patient. He's capable of helping you with PhD-level assignments.Kyra, 1 lesson with Phillip
Superb MATLAB Tutor!
Phillip is a nice guy and a punctual, reliable, polite, focused and incredibly patient tutor. He interacted enthusiastically, even over very extended projects (6 hours on the final session!). His MATLAB and mathematics knowledge base is perfect for a university-level course, and his English skills (he has an interesting background in Latin) help a lot if you are a true STEM student who finds report-writing a real chore! I wouldn't hesitate to use him online when I return to my Engineering course in California.Joshua, 20 lessons with Phillip
Very helpful tutor
I am very thankful for Phillip's tutoring of physics with my daughter. We still have a long way to go before physics is over but it's well worth the investment to have someone patiently teach her and work on her homework problems with her. Where the professors/teachers at her university can be impatient when students don't grasp it right away, Phillip has stepped in to teach her so she can grasp it.Krista, 3 lessons with Phillip

Knowledgeable and Patient
Phillip knows what he's talking about. He taught me some of Statistics, coding, Calculus, PreCaculus, and so on. He didn't just show me the shortcuts that teachers in schools teach, but explained them. I had no clue where and why they should be used or how they came to be. He could answer questions that my teachers couldn't answer. He is easily a tutor that I would choose again to help me.Jan, 1 lesson with Phillip
