Hello, my name is Shandra A. My undergraduate career involved receiving a Bachelor’s of Science in Chemistry from the University of Michigan; however, since graduation I have been involved in the field of education. I am certified in math for grades 8th-12th and in special education for grades EC-12th. For the past 16 years I have served as a content mastery teacher, credit recovery teacher, and high school math teacher. As the content mastery teacher, I tutored and assisted special education students with the assignments in their general education classes including math, science, history, english, etc. As the credit recovery teacher, I helped students who had failed classes in the past recover their credits so they could graduate on time with their peers. In my role as a math teacher I have worked with a very diverse group of students including those with learning disabilities, to those in regular classes, and those in advanced placement classes. I have taught Algebra I, Algebra II, Algebra III, Math Models, and Geometry and am currently teaching statistics and risk management. In the past I have also taught GED classes as well as served as a homebound teacher to students who were unable to attend school due to medical reasons.

As a tutor, I want to ensure that all of my students are successful and reach their full potential. I am dedicated to helping the students I tutor achieve their academic goals. I welcome any resources or materials the student or parent can provide. In addition I also provided very detailed notes and numerous examples until the student is successful in being able to solve problems or have a deep understanding of the subject matter. I am also very easy to reach and will respond in a promptly matter. In addition I utilize a variety of teaching styles so that I can appeal to the different styles of learners. I welcome any students, who are in need of a dedicated tutor, to contact me and schedule a session.

STAAR

I have taught Algebra I for several years. In addition I have provided remediation to students who failed the Math STAAR test. In my tutorials I make sure that students understand the main components of the test which include determining if a graph is a function, finding the domain and range, graphing/solving/describing linear functions, equations and inequalities as well as solving problems with quadratics and exponents. It is really important students know their exponent rules, how to solve equations, and write equations given the slope and y-intercept.

Patient, Knowledgeable, Courteous

Mrs. Shandra tutored my daughter for months prepping her to take retake the Algebra session of her STAAR test, leading up to her retake in December. My daughter failed the Algebra I twice before being tutored by Shandra. The time and patience she took with my daughter was exceptional. After her taking the Algebra I for the 3rd time in December my daughter passed with a high score! I can’t thank her enough. Shandra was very knowledgeable and thorough with information and she taught in a way my daughter understood. We will definitely be using her to help prep my daughter for SATs!

Knowledgeable and Patient

Shandra is our answered prayer. She is AMAZING!!! She is an incredible teacher. We were struggling to find a tutor that could help my child with her online algebra class because teaching herself wasn’t an option. We tried other tutors who seemed to not even know the concepts of the subject. I was very worried as to what we were going to do because my child has to complete and pass this class. Thank GOD for Shandra!!! I feel so relieved that we are making progress and moving forward. All I do know is just drop off my kiddo and pick her pick later. No more worries for me! Thank you, Shandra!!!
