About Noelia

Currently, I am math instructor at KIPP Houston Public Schools. I enjoy teaching students, helping them understand, and encouraging them to be confident while learning. I also like to challenge them to succeed beyond their expectations.

For 3 years I was a Kindergarten teacher in Seoul, South Korea. I love to travel and learn many different cultures. While being in Korea, I adapted many concepts in English on American culture/education to very young students. Then I created and developed a curriculum that would fit the class a whole.

I have worked with ESL students and primary and middle school age children in understanding how to speak, and comprehend the English language. I taught with an American curriculum approach. I understand the concepts and topics for kindergarten and first grade. I know teach the basic foundations (such as Language Arts, Reading, Handwriting, Phonics, and Math) that are needed in those grade levels. I am always learning new ideas and academic approaches through KIPP Houston Public Schools. I also get updates on the expectations for grade levels.

Now I teach algebra/basic mathematics concepts to 5th and 8th grade at a KIPP: Houston Preparatory Middle School. I have experience helping students improve in their academic skills. As a tutor, my biggest goal is that I want to make sure they understand the concept or topic. By giving them plenty of encouragement and motivation to be successful!

Please feel free to contact me! I will be happy help you or your student to thrive in their education!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have taken many math intense courses while I attended at The University of Texas at Austin. The classes were structured to understand the concepts and how to solve for the appropriate solution. Also, I am a substitute teacher at KIPP and I work with elementary students to high students. I am aware of the concepts and objectives the students must need in order to be successful in their math course.

Geometry

I enjoy teaching and tutoring students in Geometry. I have experience teaching Geometry for middle school. I know how this subject is implemented and applied to algebraic concepts!

Handwriting

While I was teaching in South Korea, one the subjects I was required to teach was in Handwriting. I had to teach 3 and 4 year olds how to write appropriately. Also, I took many development classes on fine motor skills that children should develop at certain ages. When I worked with 3 and 4 year olds, we practiced on how to hold a pencil and make letters with objects they can grab and hold first. Then slowly moved into writing letters and learned the differences between Uppercase and lowercase.

Phonics

Phonics is my specialty! Working as a kindergarten teacher in South Korea, phonics was my top priority. I am highly experienced in teaching phonics for Kindergarten. I know how important it is for students to build a good foundation of phonics. I like to make a fun learning experience students while they're practice phonics.

Psychology

I have studied Psychology for many years while attending at The University of Texas at Austin. I also have taken many lower and upper division courses in Psychology such as Intro to Psy, Abnormal Childhood Psy, Social Psy, and Human Behaviors. I also understand how to read and analyze data in Psychology/Human Development research.
