The University of Texas at Tyler (Bs in Psychology)
University of Houston- Clear Lake (Master's)
My name is Leah J. and I have a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from The University of Texas at Tyler. I am currently a student at the University of Houston-Clear Lake for a master's in psychology and a concentration in Behavioral Neuroscience. I have a lot of experience in a number of science classes including anatomy and nutrition, however psychology is my primary focus. I've worked internships at a Substance Abuse clinic at UofH and Baylor College of Medicine and I also worked in the Psychiatry department of MD Anderson.
Eventually my career goal is to be a professor and do research in the field, therefor tutoring is such a great opportunity for me to help teach those who want to be more informed in the subject as well as grow as a teacher. I love seeing the change in students as they become more confident in their work and their grades. And I hope to raise the grades of those I tutor to help further them in their career for graduate schools or in their career field. Please feel free to ask me more questions, and I hope to hear from you.
I have been in the field of psychology for over seven years, worked multiple internships, and taken more classes than needed just because I love to learn as much as I can about psychology. In undergraduate, I got a bachelor of science, therefor all my electives focused on science, such as anatomy or human diseases, as well as sociology and psychology sources, such as psychology of parenting and cultural beliefs.
I'm very bubbly and love my field of study I am in. I am so dedicated to psychology and I would love to pass on the knowledge I've learned over the past seven years. I also am extremely good at explaining subjects in easy ways that I taught myself when teachers may have been unable to break down. I am very organized, friendly, and I love meeting new people and hope to spread what I know to those that were where I was in the past. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As a student I have taken many courses over social psychology and sociology including Intro to Sociology, Cultural Studies, Social Psychology, Psychology of Love Relations, and Behavioral Medicine. While my focus has been primarily in psychology, a lot of studies, such as cognitive psychology and social psychology overlap with sociology, such as studies of bias and groupthink. If needed I can review previous notes from undergraduate before meeting with the client.
