About Rachel

Hello,

My name is Rachel and I am beginning my fourth year as a PhD student at UTHealth and MD Anderson. I am studying medical physics with an emphasis on therapy physics and my research dissertation focuses on solutions for radiation therapy in low resource settings. I graduated in 2013 with a bachelor's in physics and a minor in mathematics from Truman State University in NE Missouri. As a liberal arts institution I also took courses in Spanish, classical music and human anatomy.

Outside of academics, I was a division ii student athlete competing as a thrower in indoor and outdoor track and field. I believe learning should be enjoyable and not a burden and I enjoy helping those with a desire to master the material. During my time as an undergrad I tutored physics students bimonthly and often helped my teammates with assignments.

As a mathematics minor, I took courses in calculus, ordinary and partial differential equations, statistics, linear algebra, as well as math for physicists.

The bachelor of physics degree requires successful completion of a full range of physics classes including introductory calculus based physics, modern physics, classical mechanics, thermodynamics, electricity and magnetism, and quantum mechanics.

I encourage you to contact me if you are struggling with a subject and have a desire to improve, whether it be for purposes of grading, college entrance exams, or simply a deeper understanding of the material. I am most comfortable tutoring students aged middle school and older. Regardless of age or subject, please come prepared and I'll do my best to help you! As cheesy as it sounds, learning should be enjoyed and if presented in the right light nearly any subject can be made fascinating.

I look forward to helping students of any age with advanced coursework. I hope to hear from you!
Rachel

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I enjoy tutoring math students at any level. Algebra had so many applications and getting students excited about their studies is important to me.

Algebra 2

I graduated from university in 2013 with a major in physics and minor in mathematics. I tutored math students while in undergrad and enjoyed seeing students understand the material and excel on assignments and exams.

Calculus

I completed undergraduate calculus I through III and regularly use calculus now as a graduate student. As an undergrad I tutored calculus II students during which we reviewed homework assignments and exam prep.

GED

I enjoy tutoring students who are seeking to better themselves or get ahead, these are both typically true of GED students. As a still student (graduate school) I understand the struggles of employment and studying. I also enjoy working with older students.

Geometry

I greatly enjoy tutoring students in all math subjects especially those like geometry which can be transformed into tactile learning experiences.

Precalculus

I graduated with a minor in mathematics and frequently use concepts from calculus in my role as a graduate research assistant.

Professional and nice tutor

Rachel is helping my daughter with her precal and was able to schedule us for a lesson the very next day! She was on time and very kind and patient. We have only had one lesson but my daughter likes her and we plan on using her on a weekly basis.
