About Erica

Most of all, I have a passion for learning. My desire is to inspire others to become life-long learners. I strive to help individuals who may be struggling to breakdown the learning process so that it is not as daunting as they may believe.

In my professional pursuits, I've had the pleasure and honor to help students gain confidence in how they approach learning. I believe in providing positive reinforcement and unlimited support when accomplishing tasks. I truly believe every individual has the capacity to succeed. It is a gift to witness an individual gain a new skill. This, and my love of teaching, gives purpose to my work.

I've worked with individuals who are in preschool through adulthood. I have a bachelor's degree in education. Also, a master's degree in learning and instruction with a specialization in reading and writing. As a tutor and teacher, I've helped these students attain essential skills to improve in areas they find challenging.

For instance, I have developed lesson plans and curriculum tailored to the individual's needs. I assess students' strengths and challenges. Then, build upon what the student knows to gain additional knowledge.

I place great emphasis on a holistic approach and meeting the student where they are academically. My goal is to support individuals to thrive and achieve beyond what they believe possible.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have a bachelor's degree in early childhood education. Also, I hold a master's degree in learning and instruction with a specialization in reading and writing. I have taught kindergarten and first grade. I passed the CBEST which qualified me for my teaching credential and to teach k-6. My past tutoring and teaching experiences have included instruction in phonetics, spelling, letter recognition, grammar, sight words, predicting, comprehension etc.
