My name is Varughese. I have successfully completed Ph.D, in Pastoral Care and Psychotherapy from Emory University, Atlanta, GA. I also have completed my Bachelor of Arts (B.A Economics); Bachelor of Theology (BTh); Bachelor of Divinity (BD) and Master of Theology (MTh Pastoral Care and Counseling) prior to entering into the PhD program at Emory University. Further, I completed 4 units CPE from Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, Los Angeles, CA in 2010.
I have worked as Lecturer, Reader and Associate Professor for about 18 years. Currently I practice as a Chaplain and & Psychotherapist.
Hindi is my native Language, Greek I learned for 6 years.
My philosophy of education can be summed up in two words: Educare and Edutainment. Reflecting upon the dynamic interaction between pedagogy and personality, my teaching style is best described as applied, mastery instruction. While the specific learning goals of a course are dependent upon the nature of the course, the education level of the students, the purpose of the course within the department and the relationship between the course and related courses, I have three overarching goals for any course that I teach: 1) to foster critical thinking so that students may become effective consumers of the subject matter of the course, 2) to promote mastery of course content and 3) to encourage application of course materials into real-world contexts. I have studied Greek as a language both in my Bachelor of Theology and Divinity Studies, altogether for 6 years. I have taught Greek in BTh and MDiv levels while I was working as an Associate Professor for about 18 years. I can read, write and translate to and from Greek.
I am a trained Psychotherapist with PhD.
