As a firm believer of constructivism, I think liberal arts education should prepare students to be strong critical thinkers and capable problem-solvers. Students should graduate with the skills to be productive and engaged world citizens.
I plan to use my faculty role of teaching to support student attainment of these goals. As a foreign language teacher, it is my responsibility to challenge and encourage my student, in pursuit of learning goals: learn basic knowledge of Chinese; cultivate an interest in Chinese language and culture; be able to balance the development of three modes of communication-interpersonal, interpretive and presentational; solve problems cooperatively and engage peer mediation; immerse students in target language environment; embrace diversity in classroom, learn and respect different cultures thus to step onto the stage of world citizen and consider problems from different perspectives. I want my students to leave the classroom with basic Chinese communicative skills that enable them to engage in other Chinese speaking conversations.
