My reason for teaching is a little different than most. I have been in the work force as a draftsman and piping designer for over 40 years and am getting close to the end of my career. I would like to give the younger generations the benefit of my accrued experiences. There are many ways to perform different procedures and I know I can prevent my students from getting mired down by the varying bits of misinformation flying around in classrooms, drafting rooms, in the work place, and on the web.
My tutoring specialties are BASIC DRAFTING, AUTOCAD, and PIPING. I gear my sessions toward the student who is having trouble comprehending information being given in classrooms or on jobsites, therefore, I allow the student to dictate the curriculum and pace. I am capable of teaching basic (or advanced) drafting skills, transferring these skills into professional looking drawings using AutoCAD, and then taking it one step further and using these drawings in the workplace creating presentations for the different industrial disciplines (piping, structural, electrical, and instrumentation).
My tutoring sessions for BASIC DRAFTING cover all aspects of putting together a clear, concise, information laden drawing. These aspects include orthographic and isometric projection, lineweights, linetypes, in function as opposed to out of function line work, title block creation, spatial relationships and view placement.
My tutoring sessions for AutoCAD cover the basic commands for both the 2D and 3D environments. I can improve understanding of the basic commands which will increase speed and accuracy in creating drawings as well as models. I can help unravel the dreaded interface between paper and model space and help in the creation of drawings seamlessly using entities from both your 2D and 3D worlds.
My tutoring sessions for PIPING cover pipe, valves, and fitting knowledge, as well as specifications, materials of construction, and methods of assembly. There will be some discussion about specialty items, and stress considerations. There will also be some emphasis on Process Flow Diagrams, and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams since they are an integral part of the piping design world.
I am generally available as needed (with a two day notice). My rate is $65/hour for any of the modules (drafting, Acad, or piping). I work at your pace and will not go faster than you are capable. It is your time and effort that is being expended, so, If you do your part, I will do mine. Since math is an integral part of this learning experience, it is important that you are well versed in geometry and basic math. I expect the AutoCAD student to have a working computer with AutoCAD installed and working. My reason for teaching is a little different than most. I have been working with CAD programs for over thirty-five years. I actually helped beta test for Advantage Engineering, which was cutting edge for its time. I have tutored individuals as well as small groups in the basics of CAD systems for companies that I have worked for. In all of my positions at various companies, I have always mentored the younger employees in their desired disciplines as well as their CAD platforms.
