About Garveen

I am 18 years old, and I am currently an Aerospace Engineering Junior at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. I love practical problem solving (I knew I wanted to be an engineer of some sort) and I have had a lifelong fascination with aircraft, so Aerospace Engineering seemed like the perfect choice of major for me. Outside of school, my hobbies include playing guitar, singing, basketball, soccer, cooking, and learning new skills. This summer I am teaching myself French and also trying to learn how to dance.

Since January 2016, I have held tutoring jobs with Embry-Riddle's on-campus tutoring center, as well as with Varsity Tutors, which offers both in-home and online tutoring. Prior to that, while I had not possessed any formal tutoring experience, I had often helped my friends, both in high school and college, with subjects such as Math and Physics. In addition, my mother teaches robotics, and had homeschooled me until the age of 6, which led to me being several grades ahead in both Math and Language Arts. I draw heavily from my experiences as her student, and incorporate many elements of her teaching style into my own (she is a really good teacher, trust me).

I currently tutor Calculus through Varsity Tutors. In high school, I took Calc 1 & 2, where I got A's for both classes, and at Embry-Riddle, I got an A for Calc 3 as well. Furthermore, I studied for the AP Calculus BC by myself, and I scored a 5. As an engineering student, I also take many other courses which heavily rely on knowledge of calculus.

Physics is one of my favorite subjects, and consequently one of my strongest. I currently tutor Physics through Embry-Riddle's on campus tutoring service, as well as through Varsity Tutors. While I was in high school, I took several physics courses through Stanford's EPGY program and my school, and I also prepared for the SAT Physics and AP Physics C: Mechanics by myself (I scored 770 and 4, respectively). I have also taken Physics 2 and Physics 3 at Embry-Riddle, where I got A's for both classes. As an engineering student, I also take many other courses which heavily rely on knowledge of physics.

I live in Houston, and currently I am only doing online tutoring, as driving in Houston is a pain. I am in Central time, but I am available throughout the entire day for tutoring, every day of the week, with the current exception of 1:00 - 2:00 P.M. on Wednesdays. If you need help with Math, Physics, or test prep, please contact me so we can work out a schedule!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
