I never thought of becoming a tutor until I was asked by one of my mentors from the Upward Bound program in Houston Community College. I had just finished my first year of college and the Upward Bound program was recruiting for math part-time tutors. I tutored high school students in math areas such as algebra, geometry and pre-calculus but the program focused more on algebra since most of the students took algebra in high school. During my time there I also helped the Spanish instructor with answering questions students might have about the material. I gained experience in using different tactics to help students learn. I liked working there and loved being part of a program that helps high school students advance in a subject and get financial aid.
I enjoyed tutoring there for 4 short years and I've been told that I am a good listener and patient with others. I do not try to overwhelm anybody with the subject but I do not rest until you can understand the material without a doubt. I can guaranty clarity in the material, higher grades in homework and exams because I have the confidence and experience to say so.
I will break down the basics of algebra and give multiple examples to help you understand the material. Each of us have a unique way of learning and I will help you find your way via flashcards, drills, etc. I never give answers without explaining how to get them to ensure you learned something.
Spanish is my native language and I know how to speak it well. I can help you speak, pronounce, read, and write Spanish and also help with any projects.
I want a chance to help you and I promise that one hour with me is enough to feel smarter and we'll finish with a smile. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Born in Mexico, went to elementary school in Guanajuato. Later after moving to Houston I also took Spanish classes in high school to refresh my Spanish skills. I started to tutor Spanish around 2010 and loved it ever since.
