About Kelsey

I am a college professor and I teach world cultures, world religions and critical thinking. I feel privileged to teach subjects that I find so interesting but while I love the subject matter, I am more passionate about aiding in the success of the students. In all the classes I have taught, I have found that students truly benefit from one on one instruction. Whether the instruction addresses specific questions about the course content or more general feedback on writing, they benefit from the individual attention and accountability provided by these interactions. I love tutoring because it offers me the opportunity for an up close and personal connection to the growth and progress of the student.

I have written a lot in my educational career. Beyond writing and proofreading my own work, I have also edited and graded a lot of writing. I excel at pulling apart an assignment to understand its components and using those components to guide research and organize a well thought out essay. These are skills I taught my students in the past and they become clearer more organized writers for them.

I LOVE religion. I love how it influences opinions, politics, beliefs and lifestyles. My passion for the subject has led me to a Master's in Theological Studies and a deep curiosity for religions around the world. I teach classes on Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism, Taoism, Shinto, Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Sikhism and Modern Religions as part of the academic study of world religions. I also have read and complied an extensive collection of materials to aid in the understanding of these faiths from an academic perspective.

I would love to help you become a better writer, reader, thinker and organizer. Whether you need help writing a thesis, developing an outline, breaking down an assignment, compiling research, forming an essay or understanding a faith community - I would love to be part of your success! Contact me today to schedule your tutoring session.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Reading

I am a college professor and I teach reading and comprehension intensive classes. I am also a volunteer with Kid's Reading Room where I get to champion reading skills for elementary age students.

Religion

My masters is in theological studies and I teach a world religions university class. I have taught this class for 3 years. The class covers indigenous religions, Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism, Taoism, Shinto, Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Sikhism and modern religions.

Social Studies

I am a college professor and two of the courses I teach are World Cultures I and II. These courses cover history, artistic progress, scientific innovation and cultural growth from ancient Sumer through the Protestant Reformation/Counter-Reformation (in World Cultures I) and the Baroque through the Vietnam War (in World Cultures II). I use Henry Sayre's books "The Humanities: Culture, Continuity and Change" volumes 1 and 2.

Study Skills

As a college professor, I meet with students regarding their success in my classes. One of the requests that comes up most often is improving study skills. I have helped many students put together a plan of attack for their curriculum. This generally begins with developing a calendar. Then I advise about how to take the best notes, get the most out of the assigned reading and how to be the most engaged member of the class.

Writing

As a college professor I have both written, assigned and graded many pieces of writing. I am detail oriented and employ helpful writing process techniques to ensure a great final piece.
