About Jane

I have been teaching English, Social Studies, Humanities, and Spanish for over fifteen years. I love studying different cultures and have traveled to many places. I lived in Brazil and Lebanon and learned Portuguese and Arabic.

I have taught preschoolers all the way through community college. Most of my experience has been teaching middle school and high school. My teaching certifications are in Texas and New York. I have always been a natural at math and started tutoring math when I was in high school.

There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a student "get it." I have the patience and creativity to try different approaches to getting ideas across. I try out different strategies and assess each student's learning style.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

American History

I have taught 8th grade U.S. History three times and the first half of AP US History.

ESL/ESOL

I have an ESL certification and have taught 4-year-olds, middle schoolers, high schoolers, community college students and adults English as a New Language. I have trained English teachers in Brazil and Lebanon. I have also worked as a writer and editor for magazines.

Spanish

My Venezuelan grandmother raised me. I studied Spanish throughout school. I've taught Spanish I, II, and III at the high school level. I have also taught bilingual English/ Spanish Social Studies classes.
