About Lee

"We are what we continually do. Therefore excellence is not an act, but a habit" - Aristotle.

Great words to live by and a motto that anyone should be proud to share as long as they live by it everyday. I believe this space is supposed to be an insight into my world, so here we go. I am a crazy guy who loves to laugh and have fun but also I know when it's time to be serious. I try to apply that my teaching and tutoring.

When it comes to my style of tutoring, I follow the Socratic method. I like to ask questions to force you to think through the answer instead of me giving it to you. Also I like to challenge you to go deeper with your thought process because it allows me to help you, as the student, in more areas later. I will always get you to think of the question "Why?" in a lesson because knowing the answer will help you respond to any question that can be asked of you in class. That's me and I look forward to learning more about you and guiding you to better understandings and scores.

I have been supporting STAAR learning for the last three years. At the high school level I helped tutor students who had taken and failed the STAAR U.S. History exam to successfully pass their make-up exam. Additionally, I am currently teaching 8th grade U.S. History and expect to have 75% passing their exam with at least 10 - 25% achieving advanced/commended ranking based on district level pre-exams.

In my three years of teaching I have successfully taught most of the subjects in the social studies field. The Government and Politics class and Economics class are my best subjects but I am proficient at U.S. History (8th grade and 11th grade) as well as World History and others. I have taught at the high school level and the middle school level covering the subjects from 6th grade all the way to 12th grade. I know the well and can help almost any student as long as they are willing to work at it.

For more information, don't hesitate to contact me here on the site and let's see if I'm a good match to help you reach your goal. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ASVAB

I am an Army vet who scored well on the math section of the ASVAB and I'm currently a teacher with a strong ability to help adults and young adults work through a process to answer questions.

Logic

I took the course in college and received a score of 99. The materials covered are a simple set of rules to follow and I mastered them quickly. I also tutored others in the subject while taking the subject and after I completed the course.

Proofreading

I am a fourth year teacher of social studies and communications. I teach students strong communication both verbally and written. As part of my profession I edit papers regularly and in many cases at a college level of success and proficiency.

Public Speaking

I have been speaking publicly for 15 years. In high school I was a state debate champion and continued my success in college as a 5-time national champion in public speaking events. I have also been a teacher for three years where I have coached debate and public speaking as well as taught communications and speech.

STAAR

In my current role as a middle school social studies teacher I am responsible for tutoring students in preparation for the 8th Grade U.S. History STAAR exam. I also, as part of a team of social studies teachers, helped to tutor 20 plus students who had failed the 11th grade U.S. History STAAR test which led to them passing the test. I am strong in helping clear misconceptions about the material and will heading our schools STAAR "boot camp" for social studies which is a 2-week comprehensive U.S. History review.

Study Skills

I have been teaching for three years and part of my instruction each year is how to study. Students learn the basic skills to improve comprehension and retention of information and how to apply the skill correctly. With time and practice of the skill I can help identify how a person best studies and the techniques that work best for them.
