About Felicia

Howdy! I have been teaching in the great city of Houston for the last 15 years where I have taught 6-12 grade, ages ranging from 11-22.

My experience in reading intervention began when I worked part-time in a local elementary school using Success for All, a program supported by decodable stories, and instruction in fluency and comprehension.

After receiving my bachelor's degree, I began teaching ninth grade in the heart of Houston's northside district.

I taught a variety of English-Language Arts courses such as Practical Writing Skills, English I and IV, Technical Writing Skills, Teen Leadership, and AVID. During the summer months, I was part of a bridge program that prepared middle school students for the high school setting.

Throughout my teaching career, I have gained experience in the areas of English as a Second Langauge (ESL), Dyslexia, Autism, Reading Intervention, Public Speaking, Instructional Technology, Differentiated Instruction, Special Education, and Dropout Prevention.

In 2012, I received my Master's in Educational Leadership. During 2008-2014, I served in a various leadership roles including, LPAC coordinator, Testing Coordinator, College and Career Counselor, Assistant Principal, and Principal.

Most recently, I taught a few semesters in a community college for students in grades 9-12 who were enrolled in the Adult High School program.

I am fluent in Spanish. While in college, I completed 6 hours of upper level Spanish. I love reading and getting lost in a book for hours. I have taught reading intervention for the last two years. I have taught test prep courses for the Reading and Writing STAAR Exams for grades 6-12.

I hope that you find my qualifications and experience to be a match for your area of need. Below is a list of specific areas of concentration in which I will be able to support.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
