University of North Texas (New Media Art)
Hello, my name is Jordin and I am from Houston, Texas. I am in Denton getting my Bachelors degree in New Media Art and I am currently in my second year of college. I have been looking actively for an art related job and Denton is not an easy place to find exactly what I am looking for. I came to the conclusion that tutoring is a wonderful option, because not only does your child get the art instruction that he/she needs but I also get to pass on the love of art and drawing to someone else. I have worked in retail at Rainforest Cafe, but working a cash register and organizing stuffed animals did not bring me the fulfillment that I wanted from a job, because I did not feel like I was giving anything of importance to others.
I get along very well with kids and I have a nine year old brother and a twenty-six year old sister. I am the middle child and I come from a very close family. I love animals, manga/anime, and cartoons, so it is very easy for me to get into other kids interest. My dream is to make a stop-motion film and help kids cope with chronic illness. I have had teaching experience in high school band, I was a drill instructor and a very passionate cymbal player. I taught a cymbal line from scratch, because it is a dying marching instrument, and it is a very visual and artistic instrument. All my cymbal students turned out to be great artist, and I inspired them to pursue art as a career.
I have been drawing ever since I could get a crayon in my hand, and I have had 6 years of art instruction. I was also in National Art Honors Society in highschool, where I volunteered in art related charity events. I drew portraits for orphans in Bolivia and Uganda, and it was probably the most emotional art project I have done. I have experience in charcoal, pencil, sculpture, colored pencil, and my specialty is drawing in ball-point pen. I can teach figure drawing, gesture drawing, proportions, shading, perspective, color wheel concepts, and much more!
I can design lessons around your child's needs and goals! Anybody can learn to draw, it just takes practice and direction. Please get in contact with me if you have any further questions or request. I am so excited to contribute to others interest in art!
*Update* - Currently in Houston/Katy for summer tutoring. Hello, my name is Jordin and I am from Houston, Texas. Jordin is a great teacher for any novice like me to learn how to draw. It's obvious she loves what she does. I would highly recommend her to anyone wanting to hone their skills.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been involved in drawing classes for over 7 years. I have been in National Art Honors society, and I am currently in my second year of college for art. I am studying art at the University of North Texas and I have had my artwork displayed in the Lightwell Gallery. My tutoring methods revolve around the needs of the student and how they learn. It is always necessary to have visual teaching in art, but I believe it is also important to learn key concepts and definitions in art.
