University of Houston
I have lived in Houston most of my life and graduated from the University of Houston. I also knew I wanted to be a teacher. Working with kids is a passion of mine. My experience includes teaching language arts for 3 years in middle school to 6th - 8th graders. I have been teaching at the School for Highly Gifted Students in Spring Branch for the past two years. Here, I am teaching 3rd - 5th grade students curriculum that spans from 4th grade to 7th grade material. For the past 3 years, I have been a writing trainer for the district and have the opportunity to work with teachers throughout the year and each summer. My tutoring experience has been through my school district and kids of friends and family. I enjoy helping students reach their full potential in reading, writing, or any capacity of learning!!
I am certified to teach EC- 12th grade Language Arts and have trained 100s of teachers to become better writers and educators for their students. With my students I foster a love of reading in a variety of ways and always give them the opportunity to share their writing. In my classroom, we spend a lot of time revising and editing our writing to add more depth and meaning to each writing piece. It is wonderful to see the amount of pride that takes place with each finished piece!
My goal is to help every student of mine become a lifelong reader and writer! However, every challenge, big or small, is important to your academic success. If you would like to contact me for any assistance for reading, writing, spelling, grammar, etc., I will be available in the afternoons. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have experience teaching Language Arts 6th-8th grade. I am currently working with highly gifted elementary students and have experience tutoring at risk students in my district to prepare for the state test.
