I am a certified chemistry teacher. I have taught at a couple of high schools in Houston for more than 20 years. I have also taught at colleges for about a half decade. In these many years I have taught college chemistry, AP chemistry, as well as Pre-AP chemistry and regular chemistry courses. In these many years the most important experience is that I have worked with all levels of students, and I know how to teach and help students to be successful in chemistry class.
Most of my students have enjoyed taking my class. Some decided to pursue a college degree in a chemistry related field. They learned to love chemistry while also being challenged by my class. I usually use visual examples to explain the difficult concepts and show/work several problems for each type of questions to help students increase problem solving ability in order to do well on the exams.
I believe my 10 years of experience in teaching college chemistry and AP chemistry, along with a total of 25 years experience in teaching chemistry at both college and high school levels, will make me a valuable tutor to all my chemistry learners. I look forward to hear from you and help you to meet the challenge, and to achieve success in chemistry like all my other students did. I am a certified chemistry teacher. Nina is an amazing tutor! She is always on time and very nice. She prepares ahead of time for sessions, so time is well spent. She knows what is important for certain topics and has a broad knowledge on the different topics. She was able to take 2 weeks of college chemistry, dealing specifically with bonding, and teach me everything I needed to know for my test in just a couple of hours. She makes learning fun and enjoyable. She is by far one of the best tutors I have ever had!
Nina is friendly, very knowledgeable and has great teaching technique. Most importantly she is very patient in explaining subject matter until student is comfortable to move forward.
My daughter transitionned to IB chemistry this year and was behind compared to her classmates who had already taken a pre-IB course. After a few sessions with Nina, her grades have risen to A's! She explains very well and helps her both with homework and with understanding and going beyond subjects studied in class.
I asked Nina very late notice to help me with my AP Chemistry Test over Kinetics and was very happy when she was able to do it. I think she was probably knowledgeable of Chemistry but was not very good at communicating ideas to me. She kept repeating this one idea that I already understood over and over again and it was a little frustrating. I received back the lab questions we worked on together and a lot of answers she approved were marked wrong. After almost two hours I felt the only things I learned, I taught myself. She was very condescending when I didn't know things she thought I should and overall had a bad method for a tutor for me personally. I will not be going back. It was barely worth paying for.
I needed help to better understand the Laws of Thermodynamic along with its’ application so that I could be prepared for future testing. Nina was a perfect selection for my objective. She used (i) easy to visualize examples; (ii) a voice tone that encouraged & welcomed student questions; and (iii) most importantly her prior experience and knowledge of Chemistry made our interaction very beneficial. Now, I have a lot more confidence moving ahead.
I would highly recommend Nina as a tutor for/to any student wanting to improve their understanding of Chemistry.
Nina did an excellent job of helping me understand an entire unit in preAP chemistry. I was absent one day and missed out on a lot of information and got very confused. After studying with Nina I was prepared for a test. I plan on asking her to help me in the future when I don't understand the material.
Just in my son's first session with Nina, she helped him understand the foundations upon which he may build. He actually said "Chemistry is going to be easy!" Perhaps a little over confident but Nina really cleared up his confusion and gave him confidence. We will likely be working with Nina for the semester.
Ms Nina is an excellent Tutor. She started teaching me College Chemistry when I was failing my exams and from that point on we started taking 4 hour classes every week and I ended up with an A. Quite an unbelievable achievement. Huge Thanks to Ms Nina to make this happen.
The first session with Nina went very well. My son was very encouraged by Nina's instruction. She helped him with some very difficult material that he has been struggling with. He felt very confident after their session. He is looking forward to their next session.
Nina is amazing with my son. She is full of contagious energy and teaches for mastery. It shows that she loves what she does
Nina is passionate about Chemistry. My daughter is making A's and B's on her honors chemistry tests after studying with Nina!
Nina was very patient and honest with her evaluation of my daughter's tutoring need. I think if we continue lessons with Nina, there will be some improvement in my daughter's Chemistry grades. Thanks Nina
My son was extremely impressed with her knowledge and ability to explain Chemistry. She is very polite, patient and very professional. Best Chemistry teacher anyone can have!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have worked at colleges and high schools in teaching college chemistry, AP chemistry, as well as Pre-AP chemistry and regular chemistry courses for 25 years. In the year of 2014-15 my AP chemistry students 100% passed AP chemistry exam, and in my previous year students have had about 85% of AP exam passing rates yearly, while my Pre-AP and regular chemistry students at 85-90% of passing rates consistently in district's assessment tests yearly. Prior to high school teaching career, I taught college chemistry at community colleges for 5 years, and laboratory courses in the department of chemical engineering of a university for 5 years.
