About Nina

I am a certified chemistry teacher. I have taught at a couple of high schools in Houston for more than 20 years. I have also taught at colleges for about a half decade. In these many years I have taught college chemistry, AP chemistry, as well as Pre-AP chemistry and regular chemistry courses. In these many years the most important experience is that I have worked with all levels of students, and I know how to teach and help students to be successful in chemistry class.

Most of my students have enjoyed taking my class. Some decided to pursue a college degree in a chemistry related field. They learned to love chemistry while also being challenged by my class. I usually use visual examples to explain the difficult concepts and show/work several problems for each type of questions to help students increase problem solving ability in order to do well on the exams.

I believe my 10 years of experience in teaching college chemistry and AP chemistry, along with a total of 25 years experience in teaching chemistry at both college and high school levels, will make me a valuable tutor to all my chemistry learners. I look forward to hear from you and help you to meet the challenge, and to achieve success in chemistry like all my other students did.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Chemistry

I have worked at colleges and high schools in teaching college chemistry, AP chemistry, as well as Pre-AP chemistry and regular chemistry courses for 25 years. In the year of 2014-15 my AP chemistry students 100% passed AP chemistry exam, and in my previous year students have had about 85% of AP exam passing rates yearly, while my Pre-AP and regular chemistry students at 85-90% of passing rates consistently in district's assessment tests yearly. Prior to high school teaching career, I taught college chemistry at community colleges for 5 years, and laboratory courses in the department of chemical engineering of a university for 5 years.

Very knowledgeable, kind, and prompt — Nina is an amazing tutor! She is always on time and very nice. She prepares ahead of time for sessions, so time is well spent. She knows what is important for certain topics and has a broad knowledge on the different topics. She was able to take 2 weeks of college chemistry, dealing specifically with bonding, and teach me everything I needed to know for my test in just a couple of hours. She makes ...
