I have been working as an independent tutor for the last four years. I specialize in Elementary Courses, primarily in Reading, Math, and Science, however I am also a native Spanish speaker. I have worked with students and raised their STAAR scores from nearly failing one year to commended the next. I am a dedicated tutor and communicate well with children. My sessions involve fun and creative ways for the students to learn. I'm known for creating songs and rhymes for memorization techniques and helping students create their own "Mind Movie" while reading.
My greatest praise was when a fifth grader who would flinch and complain when STAAR passages were first brought out, later showed so much enthusiasm for reading that she demanded a public library card! She went from barely reading to finishing Harry Potter in a week. I use visual techniques for math, usually walking a student through drawing out a problem and showing them to really know key words. And of course, my continent and water cycle songs are often very easily remembered.
I try to help a student by finding the root issue and turning what was seen as "the worst subject ever!" into a fun and creative new adventure!
As of now I'm getting ready to go back to school for my Masters. I'm debating whether I want to concentrate on Child Psychology or Language and Literacy. I currently hold a Bachelors in Liberal Arts concentrating on English and Theater with a minor in Psychology. As I am working full time, I hold tutoring sessions after normal business hours and on weekends. However, I try to be flexible and I do have an 8-hour cancellation window. I also offer makeup classes.
I usually go to your house so the student feels comfortable. However I am happy to work with the student in the public library or any other location you suggest.

I have worked with Cy-Fair schools and the Read 180 program. As an avid reader, I try to help students learn to truly visualize what they are reading and maximize their comprehension. I worked as a paraprofessional with Cy-Fair for some time before returning to school myself and am therefore familiar with the curriculum. I also frequently converse with Cy-Fair elementary school teachers who keep me updated on curriculum changes and teaching techniques. I have studied speech therapy and have worked with students that are both struggling with reading and have minor speech impediments.
I have been tutoring since 2011 from kindergarten to seventh grade and several high school and college courses. My mother has worked in the education field for the past 30 years and has taught me everything she knows.

I have been taught and guided by teachers regarding the math curriculum changes this past year. I've also helped many students do better in math by trying to find out their learning styles and adjusting my lessons accordingly.
I have studied speech therapy and have worked with students that are both struggling with reading and have minor speech impediments. I am familiar with phonic exercises, and have worked through my own speech impediment. I have just left university and am planning to return for my masters in Child Development and Speech.
