About Catherine

I view education as a lifelong process, and place a great emphasis on providing the tools with which to not only make the preferred grade or score, but also to acquire and develop skill sets that will be applicable and advantageous in future endeavors and life in general. I have a master’s degree in clinical psychology, have completed almost all course requirements toward my doctorate degree, and have taught and tutored people from grade school through the graduate level. I have also provided standardized test preparation and counseling and consultation on study skills, college preparation, and career selection and development. I believe that tutoring is most beneficial when one's tutoring approach is tailored to the individual. I find it important to not only address areas for academic growth, but also to guide the student to identify, develop, and effectively utilize their strengths. I hope to guide you along your academic journey and facilitate empowerment through education!

I have a B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin, where I was enrolled in the Plan II Liberal Arts Honors Program and had a dual major in psychology. Furthermore, I have a master's degree in clinical psychology, and have completed nearly all requirements toward my doctorate. I have conducted various guest lectures, workshops, and seminars in psychology, and I have also tutored other students in psychology and have presented various multidisciplinary staff trainings on issues in psychology and in mental health. I find that what makes me an outstanding psychology is not only my enthusiasm and breadth of knowledge about the subject material, but also my ability to engage students and make the subject material accessible, relatable, and applicable.

Most of my academic career has been writing-intensive, and I have published various manuscripts. In fact, writing is an area in which I received substantial accolades from professors, supervisors, and others. I have especially developed my knack for editing and for providing writing guidance through co-authoring articles and book chapters to professors, as well as in tutoring and coaching other students. Furthermore, I understand that strategy is absolutely key to making higher scores on standardized tests.

I have counseled numerous high school and college students regarding standardized test preparation, college preparation and applications, college-level study skills and habits, and the selection of college majors and career tracks. I have found that the key is to help students reduce anxiety levels associated with standardized tests, college preparation and academic performance, and other issues, facilitate the use of effective strategies, and provide guidance to students on how to best identify and utilize their individual strengths.

I would love to be of assistance! I hope to provide guidance that will convert a potentially stressful situation to one that lends itself to growth and empowerment!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Social Studies

I am enrolled in an Alternative Teacher Certification Program, and have passed the subject competency exam in Social Studies.
