About Charity

I realized potential for teaching when I volunteered as a tutor at my high school back in Fall 2008. During my quest to share my knowledge with my fellow classmates as well as my underclassman, I worked closely with teachers and parents to ensure that the student received the best learning experience possible. By the time I graduated high school in Spring 2010, I had averaged 30 hours per semester of volunteer tutoring.

After graduation, my professors recommended me for a position as a tutor for the school district. I would tutor groups of students in whichever subject they needed help in. However, rather than simply giving the students the answers, I would guide the group discussion through leading questions in order to allow the students to arrive at their own conclusions. In addition to this, I have also done private tutoring where I arrived at the student’s home at agreed dates and times. I have never found a position in which I am more proud than the moment that my students gets the “ah-ha” look on their face.

I specialize in tutoring K-12, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus 1, Calculus 2, as well as SAT math. Regardless of which subject we are working on, I aim to help the student build the necessary foundation in order to understand not only when we should use certain steps, but also why. I believe that a strong foundation is a necessary component to achieve success.

I enjoy working with individual students in order to ensure that the student feels comfortable and thus able to ask questions without fear. I feel that I will be able to accomplish more since I will be able to cater difficult questions to their individual personalities and preferences. In my experience, it is always easier to remember something if you have a positive thought that goes with it.

I always regard my students with kindness. I am patient and understanding of their individual learning abilities. I always try to find different ways to teach students since I understand that every student is unique and what works for one student may not work for another. As I’ve mentioned above, I will do my best to ensure that the student will have a solid foundation prior to attempting any difficult problem. I am optimistic that my various techniques with be successful in bring the light of understanding to a students eyes.

I am very flexible in regards to scheduling. I do ask that I receive a 24 hour notice for cancellations.

I am willing to travel. I recommend that the location is a quiet and comfortable place in order for the student to focus and understand the material without any unnecessary distractions.

I look forward to working with you and your student and helping them succeed!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Prealgebra

Please take a look at my profile for a complete description of my qualifications in this subject. I am 100% sure I understand the material and will be an asset to helping you and your child succeed!

STAAR

For the school year of 2015-2016, I worked as an interventionist for an elementary school in order to help students who are falling behind in their classe
s. During this time I have helped teachers prepare packets for students to practice for the STAAR test according to the current objective. I believe that I can help students by first seeing which topics they need help on (regarding the corresponding STAAR objectives) and then providing guidance and practice for the student to work on.

Great tutor

Charity is a very patient and knowledgeable tutor. Her method of teaching made it easy for me to understand the areas in algebra I was having trouble with. She has an easygoing personality, which makes it even easier to connect and learn. I definitely recommend her.
