About Mandy

Hi everyone! My name is Mandy, and I am committed to helping you in your academic voyage. I am excited to share knowledge with anyone who wants to learn.

I graduated from University of Texas at San Antonio in 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences. Throughout my academic career, I have helped tutor fellow colleagues in math and science. While studying, I came to realize that I understood the concepts better when I was able to help others understand the same concept.

I have noticed that people can become frustrated with math and sciences. These fields tend to be more challenging because they build off preceding lessons. Missing one block could consequently lead to the foundation being unstable and ultimately crumbling. I have the capability to break the material down and present it to which you can relate and understand using prior knowledge and life experiences. In addition, I mentor students on test taking skills and studying skills, while increasing their confidence in not only the material but themselves. Furthermore, I have experience tutoring those with ADD/ADHD.

Anyone you encounter has been in the same place as you are now, but this is why we are here because someone took the time to help us too. This is why I would love the opportunity to help you achieve your goal in succeeding in your academic career.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

For over 5 years, I have tutored Algebra to many students. In addition, I have and still use math daily within my occupation, school and personal life. My teaching method is to help my students understand the math concepts by applying real life experiences and prior knowledge. Building on these basic math steps helps build a foundation when math concepts become harder and more challenging. Repetitive math and relevancy to word problems aids in succeeding in understanding the concepts fully. With my background and knowledge, I am able to teach Algebra because I can teach other types of math courses that utilize the same basic concepts such as Pre-algebra and Statistics.

Furthermore, I have tutored Biology for over 5 years and I have over 10 years of a Biology background. In addition, I have the passion to teach students to love science. Not only do I use charts and pictures, I review root words, prefixes and suffixes to break down each scientific term. My teaching methods consist of hands on explanations, prior knowledge, and relevancy to student that can make the concepts understandable and exciting. Moreover, I also have the capability to dissect challenging scientific concepts into simpler concepts. My goal is that after understanding the material efficiently, students will begin to enjoy science just as I do.

Elementary Math

I have tutored others for elementary math. I use math daily with my work, school and personal life. Spelling

I am proficient to tutor spelling because I have tutored young children before in elementary. I also won the spelling bee when I was in 3rd grade.
