About Sarah

“Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I learn. Involve me and I remember.”
- Benjamin Franklin

Greetings! I love to teach. That is a statement that carries more of a responsibility of character, commitment and care.

I have 16 years of teaching experience. My experience is mostly with elementary reading and language arts. I have worked with Texas' students and gained exemplary success on the TAAS, TAKS, and STAAR state-mandated tests. I have extensive training and experience in small-group instruction, student goal setting, dyslexia instruction(Region IV and Neahaus), reading support, assessment and curriculum development, and teacher training.

I have five years of experience with teaching 5th grade (all subjects), two years of experience with 4th grade (mainly Reading and Language Arts), three years of experience with 3rd grade (all subjects) and five years as a dyslexia teacher. In my 16 years of teaching I have worked with many different kinds of students (At-Risk, Gifted and Talented, Learning Disable, ADD/ADHD and Autistic).

My strong organization skills have allowed me to help students achieve high achievement and confidence in learning. My ability to communicate with parents helps in developing relationships of trust and respect. My dedication to working with students who are experiencing learning deficiencies is my driving force to creating avenues and pathways to success.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Dyslexia

I have Region IV certification in dyslexia intervention. I have supported students, teachers and parents with dyslexia strategies for 5 years. I have over 100 hours of training for dyslexia including the Neuhaus approach. I believe that these strategies will increase a child's achievement if all involved team players stay committed to the goal.
