Houston Baptist University (Bachelor in Music)
Brooklyn College (Master's)
Hi, I first of all want to say that I am very excited and looking forward to this amazing opportunity. I enjoy teaching and consider myself to be very patient. A little about myself, I have a Masters in Music, and my passion is clarinet playing. I have taught music for about nine years both clarinet and piano. I also have exprience assisting with tennis, camp activities, and dancing for beginners. I enjoy music and for me it is healing. I am also open to helping with other subjects and am eager to walk the student through them. My goal is to help guide the student to become independant. Moreso than the subject itself which I am eager to teach, I want to teach the student how to target the work at hand. Depending on the age of course, I want to teach the student how to "figure it out" and have the proper tools for when I or anyone else is not there (like in a test or at school). I also want the experience to be positive, motivating, and uplifting. All students have potential and they all have different ways to learn and be productive. I want the student that I am helping and guiding to discover those special qualities in themselves that will help them achieve their goals. I look forward to tutoring, and hope you will consider me. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am very passionate about Bible studies. In Houston Baptist University, I was required to take a semester of Old Testament and a semester of New Testament studies. In my recent years, I am also attending Bible study classes at my church, New Life in Queens. I also study daily and listen to lectures from professors online who have Phd's in this field. I am very eager to share what I have learned with students.
I have a Masters degree in Music with a concentration in clarinet performance. I have played clarinet for about 15 years. I have performed in various groups, ensembles, and orchestral settings. I have advanced knowledge in the subject and have also explored different styles including improvisation, jazz, latin, and contemporary. I have taught clarinet for about eight years and have accomplished succesful ratings for my students. They have won competitions, superior ratings, made top rankings in solo performances, and have passed auditions for highschool and college placement.
I have a Master in Music. I have taken plenty of ear training courses both in the undergraduate and graduate level. I also have learned a lot about training the ear and keen listening from grammy award winning Arturo O'Farril. He has been an amazing mentor, and I plan to use his approach to help others.
I recieved a Masters in Music from Brooklyn College. I believe I have the skills for General Music because of all the courses I took in this particular subject. I am knowledgable in music theory, history, world music, performance, and other music subjects. I was hired in Houston to help kick start a student in their musical endeavors and taught him music theory from scratch. I am proud to announce that he was then able to get a gig in Philadelphia.
I have a Masters in Music. I have taken Music History both in the undergraduate and graduate level. While teaching music lessons, I also incorporate Music History in order to further the students' understanding of the composer and piece that they are learning.
I have taught piano for about eight years. I have taught beginning and intermediate levels. My students have played for recitals, and all have passed the New York state NYSSMA tests. I am proud to say that both in Houston and in New York, I have maintained over 70% of all my students. My approach to piano is to teach them the correct fundamentals, exercises, and also repetoire that will achieve succes and also fun in a lesson.
I am very passionate about salsa dancing. I first of all have grown up with salsa all my life. I first learned traditional dancing at home, but then further explored counting on one and on two. I participated in a salsa dance group called Candela, and collaborated with the team and helped choreograph our shows. I also have a lot of teaching experience both with salsa and other subjects. I am very patient, and will work with the student no matter where they are in their salsa goals. It does not matter if they never have started salsa, I will take them step by step with where they are and go from there. I have taken various workshops both in Houston and also here in New York. I have taken with the King of mambo Eddie Torres, Melanie Torres, and Frankie Martinez. I have also developed my own unique style. I want to encourage beginners to most of all enjoy salsa no matter where they are at. I also want to help more advanced students find their own style and embrace that special something in them.
I really am excited that this is a category for teaching. I believe with all my experience in school and at the university, that I have through trial and error learned efficient ways to study. I have guided my younger brothers through their high school experience by explaining study skills to them. I want to show them how to use checklists, and also how to research effectively on line. I want to show how to prioritize study, and also how to have mental goals. I believe that by having goals will help the student better focus when they are studying. Some ways are: outlines, summarizing what they read, flash cards, taking notes, and question reviews.
