I specialize in teaching both French and English language arts, in addition to English literature, religion, philosophy and history. I completed bachelor's degree studies in a French speaking country, in an all French program. My major was oriental languages and literature with a minor in theology.
I have experience teaching French as a second language, English, reading and writing for ACT, SAT and other test prep programs (HSPT, ISEE). I also have experience helping students from 2nd-12th grades in language arts (English, reading, writing, vocabulary building) and middle and high school world and European history and world religions. We have been blessed to have the chance to have Lauren as our French tutor! Each time she met with my son she came up with great ways to help him retain the language and cool ways to help him practice his verbs! I appreciated how she took her time to come up with and write those ideas for my son after each session and talked with me about the ways he could help himself during the week.
Unfortunately I had to cancel our tutoring sessions and it is no fault of Lauren but my son isn't taking things as seriously as he should! If he did I am positive he would have grasped the basics of the French language!
I would highly recommend Lauren as a French tutor! Learning languages can be daunting but Lauren B. knows how to make it more interesting/fun and I can tell she is full of wonderful ideas!
Lauren tutors my three boys (ages 10, 8, and 6) in French. She tailors the lessons to their individual abilities and pays attention to their moods to make each lesson productive. The boys are enjoying learning a new language!
Prior to working with Lauren, my daughter was struggling in French 2 and was more interested in passing the class than learning to speak the language. Lauren has been a blessing in righting a sinking ship. Her approach is professional and thorough, yet personable. Lauren has integrated my child's course work into her teaching, has worked diligently with my child and my child's teacher to get my child caught up, as well as teaching my child various strategies for studying and testing. Lauren is everything we could ask for: well educated, patient, organized, knowledgeable and an excellent teacher. Lauren's passion for the French culture and the language have changed my daughter's attitude dramatically. We are fortunate to be working with her.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I majored in oriental languages, specifically Biblical Hebrew and Aramaic as well as Classical Arabic and Syriac. I also have a minor in theology from the Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium. I have a passion for languages and religion, and have devoted my studies to world religions, mostly focusing on the three major monotheistic faiths. I have also served as a catechist in a Roman Catholic CCE program for two years and in a Vacation Bible School program for one summer session.
I have worked with students preparing for the STAAR test for two years. One of those years was in a formal tutoring center where I was paired with individual students teaching them the fundamental skills tested on the STAAR as well as test taking and reading strategies essential to success. I was able to prepare students who had previously failed their STAAR tests who found themselves passing.
