In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. I like providing students with guiding questions of what to think for the writing and assistance in proofreading. They are encouraged to produce drafts of work, revise them and come up with a final product. For reading, students should be trained how to predict by contextual clues. This skill can help them with comprehending what the writer's point of view is and understand what the vocabulary means.

I have been teaching kindergarten teachers about Phonics for 2 years in Hong Kong. These teachers had very limited knowledge about Phonics before attending the course. Through class activities like creating rhyming poems and distinguishing the soft 'c', hard 'c' and silent 'e', the teachers learned more about Phonics. Each of them came up with their own mini-lesson on teaching a letter sound at the end of the course.
