I am a Math teacher who has had over 8 years of teaching experience with all types of students. I've also tutored plenty throughout the years, on my own and with tutoring companies such as the Huntington Learning Center, Kaplan, Inc. and Princeton, Inc. I have had lots of success in improving student academic standing.
Rather than just lecturing, my teaching and tutoring method is very much student driven. I like to know what the student already knows, identify weakness areas, and then address those weaknesses by leading the student to answers, not just telling them the answers. I try and break down problems to their simplest forms so students don't get overwhelmed when coming across a complicated problem.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My Masters in Education program had a focus in Math, so Algebra was one of those topics that I spent semesters studying, in order to be certified up to 9th grade. Also, Algebra is one of those topics that comes easier to me.
During my time as a middle school Math teacher, there were several students that needed remedial tutoring because their foundation of Elementary Math was not strong. I spent lots of time during my breaks tutoring these students one on one throughout the years. Also, I currently work at a Huntington Learning Center in which I tutor several students in elementary school.
My other favorite topic in Math, Geometry was also another topic I majorly covered while teaching in middle school. It was also one of my favorite graduate school courses that I took in order to get my Masters in Education.
I worked in a middle school (grades 6 - 8) as a Math teacher for 8 years. Pre-Algebra was one of the main topics covered, so I spent lots of time teaching it. Algebra is actually one of my favorite topics in Math.
