I am a teacher with 10 years'experience in teaching reading and phonics to the Special Ed population. I have 4 years' experience in teaching students with (ASD) Asperger's Sydrome exclusively from ages 7 - 11. I also have experience teaching ESL to students in a Title I school of a low socio-economic population. I taught first and second grade students who were Hispanic, Somalian and Bosnian. I returned to school to get certified in English As Second Language in order to enhance my teaching of these students. I also started a free after school lesson for parents wanting to learn English. As a Journalism Major, my strength is teaching reading fluency and comprehension and phonics. I also teach writing which is incorporated into their lessons.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
