I am a 28 year old male that has a step-daughter that I've been home schooling for about five months. The initial reason for removing her from the HISD public school system was because of the lack of work provided as well as the lack of teacher assistance. I have an undergraduate degree in Finance from the University of Montana, and I have my MBA from the University of Houston. My hobbies are guitar and golf. I play guitar for a local Houston band. I like dogs and cats. I have two cats myself.
As far as tutoring is concerned, I prefer to get an understanding of what is troubling the student first. Once that is determined, I try to figure out their preferred method of learning. I enjoy helping people with math because I find that I can provide helpful short cuts and alternate ways of understanding concepts that are not generally taught. The basis of how I like to teach or tutor revolves around logic and reasonable answers to a question. Math becomes much less complicated once you can discard unreasonable choices or already have a ball park figure in your head. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
