About Jacqueline

I would have to say that all of my education since grade school has focused on math and science. I went to Michael E. DeBakey High School for Health Professions in Houston, Texas. It was there that I really found my niche in both science and math, where AP Physics II and AP Calculus were my favorites. I later went to Howard University, in Washington, D.C., where I majored in Biology, but I later discovered that I didn't quite satiate my curiosity for science. After college, I went to school part-time, at the University of Houston. While there, I completed several classes, such as Biochemistry I, Biochemistry II, Endocrinology and Human Physiology.

Soon after, I was presented with the opportunity to teach at a local charter school, here in Houston. I first taught Chemistry, as a 10th grade long-term substitute and was later asked to stay to teach 9th grade Algebra. I love both subjects, so I felt that it was very rewarding in many ways. While teaching, I also focused on the various learning styles of my students and played upon that constantly. I have set a new goal to continue to teach until I retire.

I received a Masters of Arts in Biotechnology, on October 17, 2012, from Columbia University in the City of New York. While there, I continued to fulfill my love for the sciences and took several more science classes, such as Developmental Biology, Neurobiology II, and Molecular Pharmacology. After completing my last semester, at Columbia, I found that I have taken nearly thirty science classes at both the undergraduate and graduate level. This allowed me to teach as an adjunct faculty, in the Biology department, at a local community college. I taught Anatomy & Physiology courses and Nutrition. I currently serve as a full-time science teacher for a local private high school.

While teaching, I wish to translate my love for both science and math to my students. After learning first-hand from my high school Physics teacher, a student’s first introduction to a subject can make a strong impression on whether or not they like the subject, for the rest of their life. I would like to help make a positive lasting impression on many students and even adults that I tutor. I would like to show them that both science and math can be very enjoyable, if one is to put enough work into it. I would love to accomplish this goal with you or your child.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I taught 9th grade Algebra I for Yes Prep Public Schools. I understand that Math is not everyone's favorite subject, but I try to help eliminate the fear or dislike that some students have.

Anatomy

I currently teach Anatomy & Physiology classes at Lone Star College. I have also tutored the subject, mostly by preparing students for the nursing entrance exams. I have taught and tutored A & P for several years now.

Biology

I majored in Biology as an undergrad and Biotechnology as a graduate student. I was also a post-bac that focused on Biology courses at UH. I taught 9th grade Biology at Episcopal High School for a couple years. I am comfortable tutoring 9th grade Biology up to graduate school Biology classes.

Chemistry

I taught 10th grade Chemistry. I also have several years with tutoring the subject from high school and up to the college level.

Physics

I taught Conceptual Physics for Episcopal High School for a couple of years.
