Columbia University, New York (Master's)
I would have to say that all of my education since grade school has focused on math and science. I went to Michael E. DeBakey High School for Health Professions in Houston, Texas. It was there that I really found my niche in both science and math, where AP Physics II and AP Calculus were my favorites. I later went to Howard University, in Washington, D.C., where I majored in Biology, but I later discovered that I didn't quite satiate my curiosity for science. After college, I went to school part-time, at the University of Houston. While there, I completed several classes, such as Biochemistry I, Biochemistry II, Endocrinology and Human Physiology.
Soon after, I was presented with the opportunity to teach at a local charter school, here in Houston. I first taught Chemistry, as a 10th grade long-term substitute and was later asked to stay to teach 9th grade Algebra. I love both subjects, so I felt that it was very rewarding in many ways. While teaching, I also focused on the various learning styles of my students and played upon that constantly. I have set a new goal to continue to teach until I retire.
I received a Masters of Arts in Biotechnology, on October 17, 2012, from Columbia University in the City of New York. While there, I continued to fulfill my love for the sciences and took several more science classes, such as Developmental Biology, Neurobiology II, and Molecular Pharmacology. After completing my last semester, at Columbia, I found that I have taken nearly thirty science classes at both the undergraduate and graduate level. This allowed me to teach as an adjunct faculty, in the Biology department, at a local community college. I taught Anatomy & Physiology courses and Nutrition. I currently serve as a full-time science teacher for a local private high school.
While teaching, I wish to translate my love for both science and math to my students. After learning first-hand from my high school Physics teacher, a student’s first introduction to a subject can make a strong impression on whether or not they like the subject, for the rest of their life. I would like to help make a positive lasting impression on many students and even adults that I tutor. I would like to show them that both science and math can be very enjoyable, if one is to put enough work into it. I would love to accomplish this goal with you or your child. I would have to say that all of my education since grade school has focused on math and science. I went to Michael E. DeBakey High School for Health Professions in
Jacqueline assisted my daughter to better understand some chemistry concepts she was having difficulty with. She has now done well on a subsequent quiz helping her to keep her "A" in the class.
My college daughter was home from college this summer taking classes at home here in Houston while also studying for the GRE and applying to graduate programs. Jacqueline helped my daughter with chemistry 2 which covers a lot of information in a short amount of time. Jacqueline was awesome and helped my daughter with concepts she needed extra help with and was always on time and easy to reach and a GREAT TUTOR!!!!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
