Harvard University (Master's)
Hi! Let me guess: you're getting ready to run the gauntlet of standardized tests, AP courses, and college applications that guard admission to the school of your dreams, and it feels like that dream where you walk into a class naked, without having studied, and with no number-2 pencil.
We can beat that monster together. I'm a graduate of Wellesley College (undergrad) and Harvard University (masters), with an SAT of 760V/750M and a GRE score of 800V/770M (160/153 on the current scale). I have scored a 5 on both AP English tests, as well as the US History, Government, and Calculus exams (and a 4 on Art History). This isn't because I'm a genius--it's because I'm a good test taker, and I can help you become a better one as well. Whether you want to try to make dramatic gains on a test or you just need a bit of tweaking, I can tailor my approach to your needs.
I was a peer tutor in college, I've taught English and political science at the high school and college levels respectively, and I've helped South African university students prepare for the GRE--so no matter where you fall on the spectrum, we can customize an approach to help you make the strides you want to make.
I really love tutoring English, literature, and social studies, among others, so whether you're getting a summer school credit out of the way, struggling to get through a tough course, or shooting for an A and a 5 on the AP test, I'd love to help you. I also work with students on college admissions essays and can help you navigate the process in a way that takes the stress and panic out of it.
College is so much more than a test score--but the test score is a prerequisite for getting there. Let's own it so you can have the college experience you dream of! Hi! Let me guess: you're getting ready to run the gauntlet of standardized tests, AP courses, and college applications that guard admission to the school of your dreams, and it feels like that dream where you walk into a class naked, without having studied, and with no number-2 pencil.
We can beat that monster together. I'm a graduate

Shannon helped our son for the first time yesterday. Our son's strengths are math and science and his weakness is reading and creative writing. Shannon immediately connected with our son, and her passion in regards to helping her students is obvious. She cares about improving the process and approach and not just the end result. Excellent tutor and my son looks forward to her helping him going forward.
After meeting with Shannon, my daughter feels more positive with her college application essays. She says" Shannon is great" . She thanked me for giving her the opportunity to let Shannon give her input. I will recommend her to my friends.
As a father of a student who, when it comes to his son's education, expects nothing less than perfect, I have worked with a few tutors for my son and have analyzed and evaluated them and I can definitely say that Shannon is the most knowledgeable and effective tutor I ever met. Her qualities go beyond her knowledge and effectiveness in that she has a great technique in teaching that encourages the student to be curious, critical thinker, and work independently on arriving at the right answer. Her patience and dedication to teaching in a away that the student fully understands the subject matter are among other numerous qualities she possesses. The combination of all these attributes and characteristic caused my son's ACT score to go up from 30 in April 2014 to 35 in October 2014. I highly and unequivocally recommend her to any parent who likes his son or daughter to excel in ACT, SAT and other subject matter that Shannon teaches.
My son has been working with Shannon for sometime now and has a lot of confidence when he works with her. Shannon has been extremely flexible with his schedule.
Shannon has been very patient with my teenage son. My son always has some excuse to skip tutoring and keeps rescheduling. Shannon has been a great teacher and she accommodates my son as much as she can. Thank you very much for your help. My son's confidence level has gone up drastically.

Shannon has been tutoring our son to prepare him for the SAT/ ACT exam. She is professional, friendly, and really knows her stuff! Matthew is very comfortable with her and feels she has taught him a lot about test taking strategies, etc. I highly recommend Shannon!
Good tutors are hard to find. Shannon is a great tutor! She is pleasant, dependable, extremely caring, and conscientious about her work. She has provided one-on-one SAT tutoring for my son which has been very helpful. She evaluated his strengths and weaknesses and tailored her tutoring to what he needed most. My son and I have been very pleased with her.
Shannon is an excellent tutor. She has a sensational approach with my son, who never wanted a tutor in English. She doesn't only help him organize his ideas, but also inspires him to go beyond what he is comfortable with. In only a few sessions with her, he developed a strategy to reach an A. Now, he works for a better A. Thank you, Shannon!
Excellent standardized test tutor! Shannon possesses an immense knowledge concerning the layout of the SAT and ACT! Additionally, she incorporates not only the test taking strategies, but she also times the student while giving them a "practice run" on varies practice sections of the SAT and ACT. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
