I have recently retired from Klein ISD after 25 years of teaching special education students and 18 years of classroom teaching in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. In my home, I have taught piano, organ, and flute students, as well as tutoring all elementary, middle school, high school, and college students. My students have included students from surrounding public and private schools. Since I have retired, I am seeking to expand my tutoring base, as I am available for more hours during the day. My students have depended on me to help them be successful with their educational needs.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a certified elementary teacher with over 40 years' experience of teaching in public schools. I have spent many of those years working with students who have special needs, including dyslexia, learning disablities, and a variety of special needs.
Tutoring for elementary students would include working with reading improvement and mathematics understanding. It is very important to support what is happening in the classroom in order to improve progress; therefore, I would include work with science and social studies, also. The goal would be to be in contact with the student's teacher to support what learning is taking place.
I am certified in reading and elementary math, therefore, this would translate to all elementary subjects.
I am an accomplished pianist with a bachelor's degree in piano and organ performance from National College, Kansas City, Missouri. I have taught piano lessons for many years.
My piano course is based on the Frances Clark method of teaching piano. This method is based on the interval approach to learning to play the piano. It enables the student to sight read and play music other than what is presented in the lessons.
Beginning students learn to read music, as well as learn music theory and basic foundations for music that enables them to transfer knowledge to other instruments and vocal music.
Progress is based upon one-30 minute lesson a week with encouragement given to daily practice.
The ultimate goal is for the student to learn to play the piano for his own enjoyment or to pursue a career in music if that is his desire.
In order to improve study skills, it is necessary to organize the student's work. To organize academic subjects, a student must have a system of folders or binders. These need to be organized according to subject. It is also necessary to keep the work and notes organized together. Another key aspect for study skills is an organized schedule or planner, focusing on assignments and important projects, etc. by day and by month. I have spent over 50 years as a teacher and a tutor helping students to learn how to study each subject, taking notes, highlighting important points, and organizing their academic subjects. Students who follow my procedures are able to achieve improved grades and understanding of their learning.
