Hi, I’m Janell; I’m here to help you succeed in achieving your goals. Having a learning disability myself and having a son with reading comprehension problem, I understand how both the student and parent feels when the goal you want to achieve is so close, yet you can’t touch it. I have reached every goal I have set for myself and have helped others achieve their goals, as well.
I work well with students, who are in athletics. Many of these students need to be motivated in a different format than average students. Some athletes have trouble with organizing their thoughts and understanding the subject matter. I'm able to help them set goals and to visually see the subject. I can help them break subject matters down into athletic terms that they may understand how to complete the work.
I have a Bachelor's degree in Communication Studies and a Master's Degree in Education. I have over 20 years of experience working and volunteering with the public and college students. I’ve worked for youth non-profits and in administration of Universities.
I am a volunteer and Merit Badge Counselor for Boy Scout troop 95 and a life member of the Girl Scouts. I have volunteered for numerous community and school organizations. Volunteering and working in the field of higher education I have worked with diverse populations. I enjoy and understand different cultural needs. I have completed Boy Scout Youth Protection Training and have passed the state of Texas background check for substitute teaching for Pasadena ISD.
History is important in that not knowing the past it can come back in your future. We’ve all heard the old saying that “History repeats itself.” Let me help you understand history, so you don’t have to repeat it. History can be fun and interesting.
Having confidence in speaking to others can help one achieve the goals they dream. I can show you how you can become a confident public speaker. I can help you write a speech, deliver it and create a power point presentation that will make your audience remember you. Being able to be a confident speaker in public will help you achieve better grades in other subjects. Let me show you how you can succeed. I did several attempts to attain the required score TOEFL -it is a very high score and difficult to get- to obtain my professional license. I took one session with Janell and immediately she diagnosed the main language problems. After this session I did one more attempt and I got a very high score. She basically taught me how to speak with clear pronunciation. She is very patient and always uses different methodology to make it work. Janell has a very strong background of TOEFL and she has been dealing with students from different culture backgrounds. I'm very satisfied with her being my tutor and I strongly recommend her for any one who wants to score very high in TOEFL.
Janell is an amazing tutor with a special gift she brings to the table - she herself has suffered from learning disabilities and has overcome them!
This was the primary reason we selected Janell to tutor our daughter as she made her way into the more rigorous college curriculum. And it proved to be the common bond that caused my child to not only understand, but also to appreciate the information Janell had to offer.
I am pleased to report that my daughter is not just doing good - she is EXCELLING at school now.
And we know that Janell will be there for her whenever a need arises.
Could not be happier clients!
From the moment I first spoke with Janell I knew she would be a good fit! I was looking for someone to help my daughter prepare for college entrance exams. Not only did Janell help to increase my daughter's SAT score by 60 points (in only 2 weeks/6 sessions), Janell's teaching style, tips and words of encouragement helped to decrease my daughter's test anxiety. I was so impressed with Janell that I contacted her about a month later to help us, again!
Janell has been tutoring both of my teenagers for a few months now. She is especially patient and understanding and they are learning a lot. She is not just working with them in English, but also if they need help in another subject, she takes the time to answer questions. I highly recommend her.
Janell J. is a very thorough, caring, and knowledgeable tutor! Every session I had with her gave me tools and information to improve my presentations. Janell offered important critiques, advice, and alternative solutions to my particular questions. Often, she showed me the "new way" to present the idea, instead of just telling me. This was very helpful to me, and it let me see things from another perspective. Janell gave me the confidence to go onto a World Stage as if I owned it! I owe a great deal of gratitude to her. You will not be sorry choosing Janell as your tutor. You will benefit and improve. Janell is a wonderful teacher, and I am blessed to have worked with her.

I never thought I can use a WyzAnt for tutoring services. I am so happy that I finally found somebody in my area for tutoring. My son is very happy and is been very useful for him. I am very pleased with the service so far.
My name is Abigail N. and I am the mother of the student. Ms Janell J is her English and Language Arts tutor and has provided excellent tutoring service for my daughter. Janell is very patient with students from what I understand and has the personal conviction to work hard and in different ways until the student understands the material. As a parent of two first generation American children I truly understand the importance of mastering the English language. There is no doubt in my mind that Janell J has a high proficiency in the subject of English and has worked extremely hard to ensure my daughter has absorbed a plethora of knowledge and skills to use throughout her later high school and collegiate careers. I am truly thankful for all of her services and I know my daughter is very appreciative as well. Thanks for all your help and you can surely trust Janell for excellent tutoring services.
Janell is a great teacher. She is very responsible and willing to help others. I enjoy working with her.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
American History is my pastime. I enjoy reading and learning more about the subject. Many students see this subject as boring; I can help you see it as the most exciting subject it is. History is something that is being made everyday.
Having been a university recruiter and membership specialist for youth organizations, career development is used as one of the main aspects to help potential students decide on what degree they should work towards.
As a membership specialist we use career development tools in helping place volunteers in the organization. This tool is used to help the organization achieve both happy volunteers and productive methods for the organization.
