For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I enjoy very much helping students improve their reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills in the English language. I believe that a student learns best by taking lessons which focus on his or her particular needs and interests. Tutoring is a excellent opportunity for a student to better understand a subject and for a teacher to create effective and stimulating methods of learning. I especially like to share ideas and skills that help students from diverse cultures and backgrounds. I have worked with students of all ages and at different levels in programs for children and adults in Houston. I have permanent certification to teach French in public schools at the secondary level in New York state and in Texas. I have enjoyed teaching students of all backgrounds and ages. I particularly enjoy French grammar and conversation and welcome the opportunity to motivate students to think in another language and to learn about the rich French culture. I use a myriad of materials and techniques beyond textbook information such as dialogues, games, audio and visual aids, plays, stories, and original and creative learning guides made by students themselves. I believe language learning should be fun and challenging and should promote an individual's self-esteem and confidence by using methods that are positive and productive, relative and helpful to a student's interest and particular needs. I enjoy teaching reading because I believe good reading skills enable a person to become knowledgeable in whatever subject matter he confronts to learn. Good reading is essential to proper communication in any field. When reading is a pleasure, one can enter into the mind of another person or move oneself into another world. Good reading is essential for personal growth and is a key tool for survival in today's ever-changing society.
Learning to read a language can be fun and rewarding when the tutor and student have a good relationship of mutual respect and understanding. Reading is often best taught by a tutor as the tutor can best motivate or reach an individual by tapping into the learner's specific needs, interests, and level. Tutoring can thereby be the best way to successfully reach a student so that reading becomes a stimulating, enlightening, and enjoyable skill that affords self-confidence and mastery in a multitude of subjects.
Being a language teacher, I love the art of writing. Good writing skills are essential to be successful in any field. One way to learn to write effectively is to read examples of good writing. One can learn from others how to express ideas and thoughts by studying the methods used by notable and well-respected authors. Another way to learn to write is by studying grammar and vocabulary as this subject is the basis for proper communication and for the development of fine writing skills. A keen interest and a natural facility for words promote success in writing, but hard work and much practice are also necessary to develop the craft of writing. One becomes a writer from lots of experience in life and from a passion to share one's views and ideas on paper. A good tutor of writing can guide a student in the proper direction needed to advance these skills, and this work therefore can be very gratifying when the student achieves success in developing his own craft.
