I am a certified teacher Early Childhood through 6th grade. I specialize in helping struggling reading and math students. At the first session, I test each student to understand what skills they are lacking and develop customized programs to address those gaps. To keep the student on level with current and upcoming classwork, I try to work with the students existing teacher I am familiar with the curriculum in each grade level and will help students prepare for standardized tests. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I am a certified teacher in Early Childhood through 6th grade. I have taught math in the classroom and have tutored students through 8th grade. I work with students, their parents and their teachers to improve their understanding and performance in math. At the first meeting, I informally test the student to determine what gaps are causing the students problems. I then use a mix of games, rhymes, songs and drill to engage the student and keep him interested and successful.
I am a 4th grade teacher and have specialized in helping struggling readers. My process is to test the student and uncover what skills they have missed that are causing the problems and then I go back to the basics on those specific skills. I use all manner of lesson types including games, songs, manipulatives, iPad and whatever else I can find that works. We also read out loud to each other a lot. I find what the correct reading level for the child is and bring books at just below that level to help build confidence. I would love to talk with you further about this opportunity.
