I am a graduate student pursuing a PhD in Biochemistry and Cell Biology. Looking back at my previous education, I am grateful for having educators, mentors and tutors to help guide me to where I am today. This reflection encourages me even more to want to help out students who are in need of a little assistance.
As an undergraduate, I taught an Intro to Biology course. Now, I mentor undergraduates and high school students. I personally understand the importance of subjective learning in today's society. I am willing to address the needs of those who may require new ways of comprehending and understanding difficult concepts. I am looking forward to contribute to our future's success.
I am here to help those who need attention in the sciences (biology, ecology, biochemistry, etc.) along with college-level math. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. All sessions are $50/person per hour. Larger group sessions can be discounted upon request. I am also willing to provide advice and feedback for science/school projects.
Very nice tutor. Very smart guy, who is nice and polite. He had some good suggestions for learning and has a nice bright smile.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a PhD student in the Biochemistry and Cell Biology department at Rice University. I am a teaching assistant for the Cell Biology course, and I have also taken Genetics courses as an undergraduate.
I am currently making different mutated strains in Candida albicans, a commensal yeast. The lab techniques I perform require a good understanding of genetics and the tools available to perform genetic research.
As a second year graduate student in a Biochemistry and Cell Biology program, my research is more focused on the "micro" aspect of cell biology. My research is focused on understanding the molecular mechanisms behind oxidative stress response by Candida albicans, a commensal yeast. I was required to obtain an A letter grade in my microbiology course in order to do this type of research. I am also required to stay up to date with current techniques and scientific literature regarding microbiology research (e.g. journals like Nature, Cell, Microbiology, etc.).
My knowledge of microbiology spans from understanding organelle functions to whole cell-to-cell communications via quorum sensing.
I like to consider myself as an avid student of football (soccer). I competitively played at the highest level during my high school years at the club and high school level. I also went to play on scholarship during my freshman year of college before I had to step away from the game due to injury. Being from the outside for so long, I had to take in the game from watching friends, my former teams, or professional leagues, from an outside perspective. This allowed me to have a more objective approach to the game of soccer. Now when I play with people, I take notice to the subtle maneuvers and tactics occurring individually and collectively as a team.
Being a big fan of the international game, I was fortunate to attend a US match at the 2010 World Cup. The shortcomings that our men's national team displayed at this tournament are due to the lack of comfort, creativity, and technique. The comfort and technique should be taught at the early stages of youth development programs. However, this is not the case. With my experience, knowledge and passion for the game, I know that I can help take a youth player's game to the next level.
