Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

American History

I have a degree in History, certified in Texas for 6th-8th, as well as an elementary certification for K-5th. I've previously taught American History.

Cello

I have played the violin and viola for more than 20 years and the cello for the last several years. Currently I play the viola in a local church orchestra. I have also been in the position of 1st violinist at the same place. In addition, for the last several of years, I have been teaching violin, viola and cello to various students.

I predominantly use Essential Elements method books and Sound Innovations as the beginning method. As students advance, I then incorporate other books, including the Suzuki Music and Wolfhart.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a certified General Education Teacher in Texas for grades 5th-8th. I have worked with all ages on reading, writing, study skills, and math (up to 8th grade) with Sylvan Learning Center. I am also a former Reading One:One Tutor and helped middle schools students prepare for the math portion of the TAKS test at Strack Middle School.

Elementary Math

I am a certified General Education teacher 4th-8th grade for the state of Texas. I have previously taught Math Essentials with a Learning Center, up to 8th grade and helped to prepare students at Strack Intermediate for the math portion of the Math TAKS for a couple of different years.

Elementary Science

I am a certified Generalist for grades 4th-8th teacher and K-5th, with experience in teaching science for the last two years.

English

I am a certified English teacher for the state of TX for grades 6th-12th, as well as a certified Generalist for grades 4th-8th.

Grammar

I have previously taught writing with Sylvan learning, teaching all ages. In addition, I have also taught English at a middle school.

Mathematica

I am a certified General Education teacher 4th-8th grade for the state of Texas. I have previously taught Math Essentials with a Learning Center, up to 8th grade and helped to prepare students at Strack Intermediate for the math portion of the Math TAKS for a couple of different years.

Piano

I have played the violin and viola for more than 20 years and the cello for the last several years. I also have quite a bit of experience playing the piano.

Reading

I have taught reading for about 5 1/2 years.

Study Skills

I have previously taught study skills with Sylvan Learning Center for about 5 years. Some of the things I incorporate in teaching study skills are how to prepare for tests, different methods of note taking, organization, and scheduling while applying these concepts to classes students are currently taking. All of these components are key in learning how to successfully study.

Violin

I have played the violin and viola for over 30 years. Currently I play the viola in a local church orchestra. In another area church I have been a violinist or violist, depending on the need. I have several years of experience teaching violin and viola.

I predominantly use Essential Elements method books for older students and Sassmanshaus for students under the age of 6 or 7. I also incorporate selection from the Suzuki books, various Wolfhart Etudes, and other additional resources as needed.

Writing

I have previously taught writing with Sylvan Learning Center, for all grades.
