About Cameron

Hi there and thanks for taking a look at my profile!

My name is Cameron and I have been tutoring for over 12 years now and working with students to achieve their academic goals is one of my passions. I genuinely enjoy working with new students to help them with their specific goals. I've also been recognized in the past as one of Wyzant's Top 100 tutors.

A little about me:

I attended Strake Jesuit College Preparatory where I graduated Magna Cum Laude. I was in the National Honor Society and achieved National Merit Scholar Finalist status on the PSAT. For university I attended the US Air Force Academy, the University of St. Thomas, and the University of Houston where I studied Math and Computer Science.

I specialize in Algebra I & II, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Chemistry, Physics, PSAT, SAT, ISEE, SSAT, and the math portion of the GRE.

I have a patient approach to tutoring, focusing on identifying any potential blocks for the student as well as providing explanations of the material tailored to the individual student.

I have to admit that math and science were not my strongest subjects in middle and high school, and I had to try really hard to do well in them. I feel that this experience has helped me in becoming an effective tutor, because I understand that math and science do not come easily to everyone. Sometimes a student's difficulty can lie in not having built the proper foundation from the beginning, other times they simply have other strengths.

I have experience working with students who have learning disabilities, ADD/ADHD, Dyslexia, and Autism. I have also consulted as a private tutor to one of Houston's premier centers for Learning Disorders.

I have worked with many students at the top private schools in Houston including: St. John's, Kinkaid, Rainard, Strake Jesuit, Duschesne, St. Agnes, St. Thomas, Episcopal, and many others.

I have also worked with students at many of the public schools including: Bellaire, Lamar, Dawson, Pearland HS, and Clements.

In addition to taking a look at some of the parent and student testimonials left on my profile, please check below to see some of the results that I have had with my students over the years. Additional references can be provided on request.

My base rate is $125 per hour and I travel to meet you. I am generally available after 3pm during the week and between 10am-9pm on Sundays.

If you have any questions for me, please do not hesitate to reach out by sending me a message.

I look forward to hearing from you and helping you achieve success in your studies!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

C++

C++ is simply C with objects. It is one of the more popular languages taught at the university level and gives the student a good background to begin programming.

I minored in Computer Science as an undergrad and studied C++ as part of my curriculum. I received an A in my basic C++ course and I continue to expand my knowledge of C and object oriented programming through independent study.

Differential Equations

I studied differential equations for my undergraduate mathematics degree at the University of St. Thomas. I received a B+ in the course. I have also taken several more advanced courses which require a working knowledge of differential equations.

Linear Algebra

I studied Linear Algebra at the University of St. Thomas and received an A in the course.

Linear Algebra is the study of matrices and their properties. The applications for linear algebra are far reaching whether you want to continue studying advanced algebra or computer science.

Logic

I studied logic, as math major, both in the context of my courses requiring proofs, as well as a separate course (as 'Intro to Mathematics'). I am familiar with set theory, the language of logic, and how to structure and write proofs using logic notation.

I received an A in my logic course and I have since then applied what I learned in all of my proceeding math courses.

Fantastic Tutor — Cameron is a fantastic tutor. He is professional, punctual, and a great teacher of the material. Our family has a lot of history with tutors in the Houston area, Cameron is by far the best we have had. He is not only intelligent in the subject matter, he is more importantly able to teach the subject to a student. He has been successful in raising my son's grades significantly in Chemistry and Geom ...
