Hi, my name is Siva, I graduated from Virginia Tech with a Master's degree in Aerospace and Ocean Engineering. My strong interest in Math and Physics led to me pursue an advanced degree in Engineering.
I practice most of what I teach in my everyday job as an engineer, so teaching is all the more fun for me. I have been teaching students from elementary to college level for well over 10 years.
I believe that a strong background is essential for a student to progress well in any field. So, I make sure the student understands all the basics on any given topic before going to advanced topics or areas. I make the difficult topics little easier by giving more examples, from mostly everyday life, and covering any prerequisite material to make sure the student understands well. I found that this approach works well for most students who are lagging for one reason or another.
I am quite flexible and very patient to understand the students' needs and will make sure they are comfortable with my pace. I had some of the best teachers in school and college, so I know what a good teacher can bring in a student. It's not just the knowledge, but inspiration to learn more as well, and I try to create that in all my students.
The US is the most advanced country in many respects, but it's a pity that students lag in their scores compared to many other countries, and I feel it is because proper teaching methods, the homework stress, etc. all play a role. With proper patience, good one-on-one interaction, and discipline, I am sure I can improve the knowledge and interest in each child, one at a time.
