An experienced Writing Center Tutor at Houston Community College, I have had a high level of success with all levels of college and high school students, including Academic Levels, Developmental English, and ESL. I specialize in Business English and work primarily with adult learners, but I can work with high school and college students. My niche group is often non-native English speakers whose English has been "good enough" but find themselves in a position at work or in their education where their writing skills need improvement. I preform an assessment and create individualized lessons that may encompass grammar, sentence structure, paragraph unity, or simply staying on topic.
There is often a disconnect between what people know and how to express their expertise well in emails, sales letters, memos, proposals and other business writing. I can help executives and business professionals feel more comfortable when they approach the blank page, give assistance in getting past writers block, and show them how to say precisely and concisely what they mean to say.
I help at all stages of writing, from brainstorming for topics, ensuring that the writing addresses the topic or question at hand, to giving proofreading/editing tips. Adept at client-focused teaching, I am able to very quickly access the English level and writing aptitude, identify grammatical/sentence structure problems, and devise lesson plans to correct these problems. I connect well with clients and the nature of the help I provide increases their confidence in all levels of English, especially in writing.

Jeanne is very organized person and experienced tutor. She has been working with our 9th grade son. He was struggling in freshman English. He is showing improvement in his study skills, test preparation, and understanding of the subject. I recommend Jeanne.
Jeanne is very professional and patient, I love her. She will go to any length and use a lot of examples to help me understand. I like the way lets me be creative in my writings and helps me figure how to change things without loosing my voice in my writings. I am very happy with her being my tutor and only can recommend her. I am passing my College English class thanks to her and developed a liking in writing, which I thought I never would do. I will give her five stars and am very grateful to her.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I work individually with students to improve their writing skills, including brainstorming for topic ideas, organizing papers, teaching grammar and sentence structure principles, ensuring full understanding of the assignment requirements, and explaining MLA format.
I will assess students' English language level and create a customized curriculum and individual lesson plans.
I received my CELTA (Certificate in English Language Training to Adults) from Lonestar College, Houston, Texas, in June 2009.
I taught beginning and intermediate ESL classes of 10 -20 students from various cultural backgrounds. I created and executed lesson plans according to research and analysis of student needs. I designed and implemented with fellow teachers an original syllabus for the last week of lessons. I wrote a needs-analysis of individual students and created tasks which targeted receptive and productive skills.
With a sharp editorial eye, I can quickly help students identify errors and fashion a lesson to teach how to recognize and correct grammatical, sentence structure and style errors in their writing.
