We have been very pleased with Stacy's ability to connect with our son. She has gone above and beyond to make learning fun and she uses many different teaching styles to keep our son engaged. She gives praise to keep his confidence up and does not let him give up. Stacy tutors our son twice a week and he always looks forward to the time they spend together learning. I highly recommend Stacy. She is very punctual and always keeps me updated on his progress.
Stacy is a great tutor. She has really connected with our granddaughter and has identified many areas that our granddaughter needs help with. She has helped our granddaughter with homework, getting organized and study skills.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As a classroom teacher, I have worked with several students with ADD/ADHD. In addition, my own son is ADHD so I am very familiar with their needs.
As a classroom teacher, I have taught several students with varying degrees of Aspergers. In addition, I received special training on Autism to address the need of a specific past student. Since my nephew has Aspergers, I am very familiar with their needs.
In the classroom, I use several techniques including overlays, colored paper, and special fonts to try to help students with dyslexia.
Many students have problems with organization, planning ahead, etc. Those elements are the basis of good study skills. Also, students haven't learned study skills tricks. I have worked with several students over the years teaching them how to be better prepared, not only tests, but for everyday learning.
The new state assessment, STAAR, is still a bit of a mystery, but I have received extensive training on preparing students for the STAAR test. The STAAR test is much different and more rigorous than TAKS. As a classroom teacher, I am held accountable for the passing rate of my 8th graders; therefore, I do everything I can to make sure the information I teach is accurate and helpful.
